Wedding Regret

Wedding Regret

While I love my venue, my vendors.. and FH and I are planning a fantastic day... its NOT the day we would have honestly wanted to have. We wanted to fly to an island and get married on the beach.

Why didn't we? Our Families...
we both have large families and there would have been several from both sides who couldn't have come and we didn't want any hard feelings. So we are paying for this wedding, which is so much more than our beach wedding would have been... all for 'them'..

My selfish brother and his self centered wife (one main reason we didnt travel, as they don't fly...) tell me they no longer want their kids in my wedding ... all because they don't like how the pictures will look that my SIL isn't one of the BM's to stand with her daughter.. um... I have zero relationship with my SIL...need I say more? Oh well.. broke my heart, but I'll live.

FSIL (the other main reason we didnt travel, as she doesn't fly either - and rarely leaves her house unless provoked) has decided to go to her 'step-sister's birthday'...rather than to my shower (she called to tell FH that last night)... a step sister she hasn't seen in 4 years, and doesn't particulrarly like... I'd really much prefer she say that she doesnt feel comfortable outside her own house and that's why she doesnt want to go.. but what ever.. she'd like to have me over to dinner to make up for it. Yeah, Like I'd go at this point. oy.

My sister is so involved in her own life..a rough school schedule and dealing with her family.. but honestly, would it be too much to once and a while ask about the wedding? Ask how it's going?? All I did for her and her wedding, and she's done zip, zero, zilch to help out... I'm tired of always having to bring it up... can't she at least fake some excitement for me?

And now dealing with petty, stupid sh t makes me really regret our decision. If I could get out of this wedding with out loosing money, I'd be on the next plane to St. Lucia and eff them all.

Ok, enough of my pity party..
It'll be a beautiful day for FH and I and that's what I will look forward to.

Sorry for the vent!

Re: Wedding Regret

I understand I come from a big family and my family support was by saying, 'Well it's your wedding, SO do what you want.' As of today never ask anything about the wedding. You are going to have a beautiful wedding with FH and forget them. Don't let them bring you down.

Ugh - I feel your pain. I lost a few family members during this time. I will NEVER talk to my cousin or my aunt again after the way they behaved...

You really learn a lot during this process.

I wanted a destination wedding as well, but many of my close family members wouldn't have been able to attend
So, we did the big wedding thing and it turned out that we ABSOLUTELY had a blast. Yes, it was a bumpy road with all the input and opinions from family members (that weren't paying for anything) but our wedding was amazing and looking back, I wouldn't change a thing. So hang in there because it WILL all be worth it

i'm so sorry you're feeling this way ... unfortunately, weddings and drama seem to come hand-in-hand ... don't worry, when your day comes around, it'll be amazing and you will have a great time regardless of whether it was your dream wedding or not.

I am sorry you are having troubles with the family..I would suggest that from this point out you concentrate on the marriage and the two of you and forget the wackos.. You can do a wedding on a budget you can afford and it will be beautiful..You gave up the destination part, but you can still do stuff you want...It doesn't have to be a grand affair if you don't want it... I would say 'I am sorry you feel that way' as my line and let her yank the kids, not your fault... They aren't for show in pics like your SIL thinks...skip alot of stuff like that... Shower-stay home if you don't want to come...sorry you can't make it...Make it like it don't bother you..>I think alot of people do this stuff to get a rise out of people...I wouldn't give them the satisfaction. Ignore them all.. Focus on the two of you...

I am so sorry you are going through this!!!!

I can't believe your own brother and his wife have pulled their kids out of the wedding party because his wife isn't in the wedding party. Are they always this bad?

My FMIL doesn't really ask a thing about the wedding, so I know how you feel there.

Enjoy your wedding day and ignore all of these cry-babies.
