Wedding Related - this is funny!!! I was talking with my friend from CT last night....

she went to her friends wedding in Sept at Miller Place Inn. She said I cant believe what a big wedding they had. There was a CARVING STATION at the cocktail hour, a hibachi station, etc.....She said she never went to a wedding in CT where there was more than just passed h'odorves (sp??) at the CH. She said she had 3 CHOICES for dinner, she could not believe the vianesse hour, etc. She asked me if I was having a 'big' wedding like that.

I didnt know how to answer....I said that sounds just like a typical Long Island wedding to me!

She said shes gonna starve herself 5 days before my wedding!

Nowhere else do they do a wedding like they do it in NY

there are no weddings like NY weddings lol which can be a good thing and a bad thing lol

As a resident of CT, moved here 4 years ago, WEddings are not an overly done thing like they are on LI.

Sometimes I think us LI people forget what a wedding is about-Love, Commitment and sharing our love and commitment with our dear family and friends. Weddings are not about hordeurves & carving stations, ice sculptures and having more than 3 dinner choices.

Honestly, I don't think that is funny at all. Having been to weddings in CT and my brother is getting married in CT so I can say I know first hand how things are done up here. They are quaint, low key and a celebration of love.
Flame me if you want, but that's just how I feel. Keep an open mind about weddings done in other places besides LI.

If I had my way with the wedding I would have done things alot differently..On a beach in Aruba with just my immediate family..but that's a different story

I honestly wouldnt flame you at all....I did think it was funny, but not because I like the severity of weddings on LI - but because I am interested in geographical differences. To tell you the truth, I have a lot of friends coming from far away and I am going to feel a little embarassed about my wedding since they are there. Having lived in Rochester for 4 years with them I can appreciate the humble, quaintness of their type weddings. I feel if I had one of those HERE in LI, the NYC and LI guests wouldnt understand, and they are the majority and my family.

hbradio....I know what you mean. I was at my cousin's bar mitzvah in Boston in May. The cocktail consit of a waitress walking by with a few trays of finger food and a table with cheese/crackers and fruit. We have cousins in Rockland county and they say parties here are so much different.

there are differences everywhere..

My brother's wedding was in Canada and we, the bridal party, sat up on a STAGE and there was a full on podium. It felt like a conference at times..

I mean, we should appreciate all the differences and sometimes we get good ideas..

But yes, we get a little out of hand with the weddings in NYC/LI...

i tell everyone at work what my wedding is gonna be like and they are shocked... the amt of food and the prices put them into a coma


i am actually looking forward to having oot'ers go googly eyed ---after all im parying up my arse to impress my guests


i just think that coming from LI and going to weddings where they serve champagne at the front door, the floors are marble, and people wear black tie attire,,,, that simple country-like wedding seem so cheap incomparison

yet its just the way it is in other areas of the US

I sometimes get a little overwhelmed when thinking about my wedding..and LI weddings in general. But i haven't lost perspective on what its all about..I have to admit...sometimes when I am on this site and I see the tons of posts about every detail you could possibly think of...and worried brides...it makes me nervous that I'm not putting 'enough' into mine.

BUT..then I realize, it all comes down to what make YOU happy. And for me, its the fact that I'll be marrying my best friend :) Hell, i'd be happy with a few kegs and chicken wings!! LOL...

My wedding is on LI but I will not be having a huge cocktail hour or more than 3 choices for dinner and one of those is veggie meal. I know that my CA will be impressed but I expect that my LI friends will be slightly disappointed. OH WELL- I can't afford to pay for a wedding and buy a house in Southern California. I just hope that everyone has a good time and enough to eat!
