Wedding ring dilemma

Wedding ring dilemma

Ok the wedding is already costing way too much money, but now I am stuck about rings. We had my e-ring made by a jeweler (she's great). So we are having my wedding ring made to match. Heres the problem, she has designed two rings to go with mine one costs 1200, and the other costs 2600. Of course I like to more expensive one more! Is this way TOO MUCH to be spending on a wedding ring? Should I go for the cheaper one?

can you post pics of them?

Here is the more expensive one, it has three stones and matches my ring perfectly.

Here it the five stone one ( though the stones will be smaller on this ring) it still matches my e-ring, but is not an exact match. Still a lovely ring.

have you shopped around? I don't have a pic of my ring, but it looks very similar to yours, except there are 5 diamonds (total for all a half carat) with the same type of setting, in platinum. We got a huge break on our rings bc FH uncle knew someone, but without the break I think it was like $1800. We got them in the city in the diamond district at a place called 'two tone' or something like that.

I was shopping around, but my FH insists on using the jeweler he used for my e-ring. She said she is giving us 20% off, but I dont know if she took that off already, or if that price will be coming off. I get so nervous whenever we spend money on the wedding!

the 5 stone one is less expensive than the 3 stone one? how come? different size stones? I think mine is just like the five stone one, I think it's a nice ring! It's tough to pick the more expensive one when you are thinking about all the money you are spending, but then when you think about the fact that this ring will be on your finger FOREVER....tough decision!

some people that own their own businesses will give you a break on the tax if you pay cash, is that an option for you?

I JUST PUT A DEPOSIT ON A BEAUTIFUL WEDDING BAND, I WAS SWEATING THINKING ABOUT THE MONEY BUT I WILL SPEND LESS IN OTHER PLACES BECAUSE THIS RING WILL BE ON MY FINGER THE REST OF MY LIFE (A FAMILY HEIRLOOM).. AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT, GO WITH THE RING YOU LOVE IT MAY BE PRICEY BUT IN THE LONG RUN IT IS WORTH IT... THERE ARE CERTAIN THINGS THAT WILL NOT BE REMEMBERED OF THE WEDDING BUT THE RING WILL ALWAYS BE THERE..

My parents are in the jewelery business and my best advice is to shop around, but don't sacrifice quality for price. You can really find a big difference in pricing. For example - I found a necklace at Tiffany's that I wanted - but it was 15K. My mom said it will cost about $600 to make - and that is with really good diamonds so some places really will overcharge. And like Mishy said - this will be a family heirloom so it will definately be worth the money.

I say, shop around unless your FH is adamant about using her for the ring. Many good jewelers could design that ring for you as well.
But if it comes down to using this jeweler, follow your heart, not your pocket. I say this b/c if you don't get the one you really want you will always think about it and possibly regret it later.

Assuming you will still be able to pay your rent, etc I do not see any reason you should get the cheaper one when you really prefer the more expensive one. Remember -- you will wear this item every day of your life! No reason to compromise if you don't have to. Also, if your husband is happiest buying from the particular jeweler then go for it -- there is a value in piece of mind and pleasant experience!

If you can afford it - get the ring you want. $2600 is not THAT much - and you will wearing it for the rest of your life.

Re: Wedding ring dilemma

We all spend so much on our weddings, why not spend a little more & get something that you will wear everyday for the rest of your life?
I am!

We spend thousands on a dress that we are going to wear one day, so why not spend a lot on the ring- at least you will be able to wear that forever.

Christy- Go for the Ring you want!!!
I too, have to get a custom made wedding band, and although it is a lot of money its the only wedding band I will ever have.
Do you have to leave the jeweler your e-ring? I have to leave mine with them for 10 days
I will miss my e-ring but can't wait for the wedding band to go with it!!!

Re: Wedding ring dilemma

The reason why the five stone is cheaper is because it will only be .50 carat, the three stone will be over a carat. Anyway they have the mold from when they made my e-ring, so I wont have to leave it with them. I think I am going for the three stone, you are all right! I will be wearing it forever and that is the ring I really want. (Part of my dilemma was that my FMIL doesnt think I should even get a band with diamonds) she thinks I am spoiled because I have a nice e-ring. SO I let her get to me I guess. Thanks for all the help ladies!
