Wedding Ring Dilemma (confession/VENT)

Wedding Ring Dilemma (confession/VENT)

So now that we're about a year out - there's been some talk between FH and I about wedding rings...

and well I have a confession to make...

I - HATE - my Engagement ring.
Worse, FH knows it.

He's known it since the day we were engaged. He asked hours later (wee hours of the night, after proposing in the morning) if I liked the ring. I said it was nice, but he knew by my tone I hated it (to be honest, I knew it wasn't my style but was tryign to debate how I felt about it).

I hate my ring. I would have been happy with a tiny, single solitaire diamond on a white gold/platinum band. Didn't need to be big, or fancy. Just plain diamond on band, or maybe a sapphire with two tiny diamonds on each side.

Simple, sophisticated, classic.

Instead I got a pave band that has both round chips and baguette chips in three channels in a platinum plated (Fh was lied to) sterling silver band that's already showing wear and tear (i'm the outdoorsy type).

The wear and tear - I feel bad FH got jipped. He gets pissed when he notice sit - it reminds him he got robbed.

But I hate the look of it.

I always thought I'd get a really simple wedding band. Plain band with maybe a simple etching or something.

Now though.. especially that I hate my engagement ring.. and FH and I are paying for the wedding - It's like I want to put extra money there to finally get a ring I like..

Like.. the rign I want and feel I deserve to pick out with FH. Is this selfish?

I'm not talking expensive, in fact, well under $1,000. I just want a nice ring that I actually like, so I don't have somethign on myfinger I hate day in and day out.

In fact, I love some of the eternity bands, and would be really happy with a nice one of those.

am I being selfish? Or reasonable? I'd rather dial back some other part of the wedding to have a ring I like day in and day out.

I do not think its selfish... Specially if you can save money elsewhere. Between him feeling bad cause of the wear and tear and it not really being what you would have liked, I think that getting a new ring wouldn't be a bad idea. You want something that can stand up to your lifestyle, which this one clearly doesn't. And the fact that it isn't an expensive one, I don't see it being a real big issue. Just make sure that you can save money elsewhere so you don't go over budget for it.

you're definitely not being selfish!! you want something that is you...you wear your ring everyday, it should make you happy! that's an inexpensive amount of money for a ring you will wear every day and if you are worried about budget, I think you can easily save $1000 by shaving off a little in other areas.

What does your FH say about it? Does he get offended when you say you want another ring? If not then I say go for it like the other girls said you have to wear it everyday. If he gets offended by it then maybe I would just pick out something you really love for your wedding band and just wear that after you get married.

It sounds like you and FH would both be happier if you had something you loved. I don't think it's offensive. You guys are a team and you can work together to make sure you're both happy.

Can you try to sell the ring he got you and use that money to buy the one you love?

I think as long as FH is ok with you getting a new ring then go for it.

I don't think you are being selfish... I just feel differently. I never cared about jewelry. I don't like to wear it other than a watch and now my ring. My taste is very simple. I'm the simplest person there is. All I want is him and I have him. He could have proposed with a ringpop for all I care. I don't care what my ring looks like (it's gorgeous, but even if it wasn't, I don't care b/c I'm not into jewelry.) I would also not know the difference between platinum, white gold, silver, white lustrium and I don't care either. He could have gotten me an aluminum ring and told me it was platinum and I wouldn't know, lol.

Spend the money it'll be worth it to make you and FH happy. You are after all going to be wearing it forever!!

If you and your FH are both in agreement about getting a new ring why dont you look into an upgrade? My FH got my ring at Barclay and every time I go in there to get mine cleaned they ask me if I'm ready to upgrade. They use the amount that he paid for your origonal ring and they put it towards a new ring. That might be a great way that you could get the ring you love and its still kinda like your FH got it for you because your not really laying out any money!

dont think your being selfish at all, you do have to look at it everyday for the rest of your life..if you could find room in budget to get another id say go for it and try to sell the other one if can..and pick out your wedding bands together so you will both be happy
