so me & my mom went shopping for her gown today and we visited a reputable store in LI. as we picked a few gowns that i want my mom to try on, the consultant asked us 'well before you try this on, what is your price point?' and we were both annoyed on the way she asked us. she was a few feet away from us when she asked this and her facial expression seemed too dis-interested...
me & my mom wear just wearing casual, comfy attires and i felt that the consultant judged us already thinking we have a small budget!
is this typical of salons??? i mean, i know everyone asks what your price point is but the attitude that we were given! too un-welcomy.
(btw, the consultant's attitude changed the second we both said at the same time 'there is no limit'! grr.)

Re: wedding salon consultants...
Ewwww!!!! Nasty! Although I have not had this experience, I think it's probably normal to ask if you would like to stay within a specific price range. But she should say it in a nice way!

Truthfully I dont see anything wrong with what she asked you. I wasnt there so I don't know HOW she said it, but it is very typical for consultants to find a budget that you are working with so that they don't show you a dress that you will love but can't afford. I'm not sure if you were being judged or she was just trying to avoid a bad situation for you later on down the line. I wouldn't take it personally.

Re: wedding salon consultants...
i can understand that you may have felt like she was judging you, but i think it's much more likely that she was a little distracted by something or something just happened that was on her mind....and then she asked what your price point was, which is what all bridal (or mob) consultants do (if they're good) before you try on dresses....so maybe the combination of the fact that she was distracted or upset about something and the sensitive nature of the question caused you to feel like she was judging you....but imo, i doubt she was.

Re: wedding salon consultants...
I guess in some places the consultant will ask you that. All the places I visited, no one asked me though. They only asked if there were any styles I had in mine and I picked out all of the dresses I wanted to try one. I would def. be the first one to say if I thought she was judging you, but in this case, I think it was a question she asked just to figure out what dresses to recommend to you and what ones not to, if they would be above your budget.

i agree, again i dont know how she said it, but the question she asked at face value seems harmless to me

Re: wedding salon consultants...
Generally they always ask your price point but I understand it can be asked with a certain tone that makes you thin ***? When shopping for my dress I had a budget of 7k but I tried on whatever I wanted and they didn't limit my choices based upon price. So don't take offense to it unless its obviously snooty.
