It seems like it is wedding season over here in Chicago....at least in my circle of friends. We have a wedding June 1st, August 8th, ours is August 16th, one September 19th, and a destination wedding in January....
I don't want to be selfish, but we set our date first....and I feel like all of these weddings take away from ours because we all have some of the same guests invited, and with all of the showers, bparties and everything else this is going to cost us (and all of the guests) a lot of money!!!!!
Not to mention, the wedding that is the week before ours is at the same RH!
I just had to vent because I'm tired of hearing things like, 'oh why don't you guys just have a group wedding' or 'you can all save some money and go on a honeymoon at the same time' (even if they are being said sarcastically).
I don't want my wedding to be a competition...but I kinda feel like it is starting to become that way....

I would be MOST annoyed that someone is having their wedding at the same RH 1 week before yours (if u booked yours first)!

Re: Wedding Season??
I think it is happening everywhere. Just from walking around in my office, the mall, supermarket, apartment bldg., ice cream shop I hear that everyone including their momma is getting married. I think this is just a wedding year for everyone.

Re: Wedding Season??
Do you mind my asking your age? Reason I ask is because this is a normal things that happens in large groups of friends. There is usually a year that EVERYONE gets married. In my group, it was 2004, we were all around 26/27. I went to 11 weddings that year, and I was a BM in 3 of them and FH was a GM in 2. Moneywise it ****** for us, but at the same time it was soooo much fun. It was hectic and every weekend I has some wedding related activity for someone, either a shower, bachlorette party or the wedding itself. But I can tell you no one's wedding felt 'less' than anyone else's or overshadowed....even when we had them weekends in a row, and I had a few that were in the same places also. Everyone's wedding was unique in it's own way.....please don't stress about it, it will be fine and as it comes closer you'll be too wrapped up in your own wedding to even care.

Thanks! That makes me feel better....I am 25 and everyone in our group of friends is around the same age. I know it is going to be an exciting time, but we are also sharing some groomsmen, and the wedding in September is one of my bridesmaids. Financially, it will be veeeery straining for everyone and I don't want some of our guests to have to pick and choose which wedding they will attend because they can't afford to go to all of them. This site helps a lot too because I have been banned by my wedding planner to talk about any specifics from my wedding, since 2 of the others are at the same RH and we have so many similar guests.

WTFF?
Are you all using the same wedding planner or something? Are you not allowed to tell the wedding planner the specifics or your friends?
Anyway, yes, I can see how that would suck, especially the wedding at your hall 1 week before. I'd be really frustrated if that happened to me and I set my date first. We do have a close friend getting married 2 weeks before us but they didn't really have many choices w/ respect to their date and we don't own the season. Plus, we dont have huge guestlist overlap. It's actually fun to be planning on the same timeline.
I'm the first of my group of home-friends to be getting married so right now I'm the only one, but it's pretty contagious and a lot of people got engaged recently and are going to be 09 brides.
I'm looking forward to wedding season -- but you shouldnt feel like they are stealing your thunder. They wont at all.

That does totally suck but I guess you have to look at it from their point of view....your wedding is in the summer and a lot of people want summer weddings...then look at if any of your friends are teachers that takes out most of June, then not to mention RH's only having certain dates available...these people might not have had much of a choice. It totally ***** especially around the time when a lot of your friends are getting married, but try to relax and realize no matter what your wedding will be yours and trust me you won't be thinking about the other weddings on that day...

Re: Wedding Season??
anybody you ask, theyll tell you that theres a short period of time where so many of the same friends get married around the same time, it happens.
Dont see it as an inconvenience bc the same way they can view yours as an inconvenience...Just be happy you all have so much to celebrate and how blessed you all are

that's exactly the situation with our friends. she's a teacher, and they wanted june or july but their church (which is gorgeous and really fancy and apparently in high demand) was booked every weekend until 8/2. We're just glad they had a weekend available period and that it works out so they will be back from their honeymoon in time for ours.
It helps that theirs isn't in NY (it's actually in the city we currently live in while I go to school, although they both live somewhere else right now ) and there isn't much guest overlap, but at least they avoided our weekend!
Our weddings will be very different and I'm really looking fwd to theirs because it will be like a trial run for ours!

Re: Wedding Season??
I know how you feel. When me and FH got engaged no one was engaged and then about 6-8 months after everyone started to get engaged and now they are all having weddings this year. Including my sister who is getting married 2 months after us!! It's crazy!!

I know its hard, but just try to focus on you and your FH and the fact that you are getting married. That's the important part!

Re: Wedding Season??
A group wedding??? Who says that?? Or worse - who does that????? NO ONE I know!!!!!
Sorry hon I went through a period like that, 7 weddings in one year ... in fact, the last three years I had 5+ each year. This year, I had NONE except my own, and now I have been invited to three more, only one of which I am attending. (The other two are wayyyy out of town - CA and FL - and I just can't do it this year.)
Just try to have fun and remember that your wedding will be different and special, even if it's at the same hall as two others, because YOU are different and special.

Re: Wedding Season??
Thanks for all the advice ladies...i know that the other girls who are getting married are probably feeling similarly too. They are not using my wedding planner but 2 of the weddings are at the same RH and they are using some of the same vendors....so I just think she doesn't want some of our ideas to be used...especially since some of the guests will be the same. A part of me is excited for all the weddings, but another part of me wishes I had at least a few weeks to myself Regardless, I'm sure it will all work out.

Awww don't feel bad. You're wedding will be special!!
I understand though, my cousin got engaged first and set his date for April, so we waited and set ours for August, even though we wanted May or June.
