So i want to get a pair of Navy blue shoes (my colors are Navy, silver, white) to wear for the ceremony. My mom is totally against the idea and thinks i should be in shoes that match my dress. She think it will look 'tacky' but i do not. I am either changing into Blue converse sneakers or blue flip flops, haven't decided yet. But i dont see whats wrong with want blue heals for the ceremony. I am prolly the easist bride ever and i really just go with the flow for everything. They are paying for the hall, and our band. FH and I are paying for everything else. I know her intentions are good, but i just want to be able to wear what i want instead of having to argue...

I've found that having pictures with examples of the look you're going for always helps your case. That's how I get my FMIL to understand my vision when I explain my choices to her.

Ha! Our mom's should hang out. I'm having the same problem. I want to wear pink shoes and slip into pink converse for the reception. She's adamantly against it. I really don't care. It's my day...pink shoes it is! Good luck

Sorry girls, this was 1 fight i didnt have to have w my mom... i am wearing white shoes for the ceremony and changing to Lavendar shoes for the ceremony...

Why don't you find a few photos on the wedding blogs of girls wearing colored shoes with their dresses Maybe once she sees how beautiful it looks she will calm down. Either way i say you still do it though its YOUR wedding.
I got light pink shoes for my wedding and after the first dance I'm changing into pink glitter toms. I have gotten the side eye from a few family members when i told them about it but whatever i dont care lol. Its not my fault they aren't as hip to wedding styles as we are!

This is what I am doing. I am wearing ivory shoes for my ceremony and then black for the reception. Although that is my choice bc I want to be traditional for the church. My mom loves the black shoes to match my girls idea.

i am probably doing the opposite - im wearing purple shoes for the ceremony and will most likely be wearing white flip flops for the reception (since i cant seem to find purple ones )

I thought about doing navy shoes as well, but in the end, went with white. My mom and FMIL both thought it was weird too...I guess people are still pretty old fashioned.
I say get 2 pairs! :)

Great post! I thought I was alone!! I got riiiiped for wanting pink shoes lol...and though they know I'm pretty much firm with my decisions, they coudlnt help it but tell me colored shoes ruin my gown lol..so they won and I went for nude peeptoe pumps with crystals... I have a great pair of guiseppe zanotti white pumps too, theyre beautiful but I feel like an old lady lol... imo In the end, I think no pink for me :/

Thank girls! I really though i was alone in this! I want my blue shoes so that's what i will be doing. I am going to show her some pictures. I think this will help out a lot. I think she has a vision of horrid ugly blue shoe, but when she sees how pretty the shoe i find is, shell change her tune. (or not) lol

had the same fight with my mom,and now she loves my shoes...these moms are alil thick headed with all the new wedding traditions starting and happening. i have found it to be a fight about almost EVERYTHING! they cant wrap their heads around the idea that somewhere in the last 20+ years the rules seemed to change and people are having fun with their weddings and going going by some ancient rule book.
just do whatever makes you and FH happy, she'll get over it
