Wedding song dilemma / solution? Please let me know what you think.
Ok, I'll try to keep this long story short.
Our first 'official' date was FH's senior prom. He's only 4 months older than me, but a grade ahead in school. I was a junior, he was a senior. I was asked to the prom by a senior friend that has now turned out to be gay (he just wanted a date, so he invited me as a friend). FH invited a female friend of his that was a year older, but friends with his whole circle. Bottom line: When the music started, we never actually saw our dates. They were off with their friends, and we were together.
That said, the first slow dance played was Savage Garden's 'I Knew I Loved You (before I met you)', and of course, we danced the whole thing and he officially asked me to be his girlfriend during it.
OK, so you're thinking - easy choice - just go with the savage garden and call it a day. .....BUT ..... I think the song is kinda whiny. I'm not a huge fan of the group or the singer's voice.
I am in love with Queen's 'You're my best friend', because it just just fits us perfectly. We're not really the sappy slow-dance kind of couple.
FH wants Savage Garden for sentimental reasons, I want Queen because I can't listen to the song without thinking of him and what our life together will be like.
Our DJ is very sweet, and we ran this by him.
He suggested using the Savage Garden as our wedding song, then about halfway through the night, he'll announce a 'spotlight dance' for the bride and groom, their BP and their dates, then it'll branch into the whole group. This will be the Queen song.
I need some honest opinions - is this a 'look at me, look at me' thing to do? I don't want to take too much time away from the normal guest dancing, but I really would love that song to be part of our day.
FH says this is a great idea, but then again, he's wedding clueless. What do you ladies think?
