Wedding Thank you..would this piss you off?

Wedding Thank you..would this piss you off?

We went to Fh's cousin's black tie wedding down in DC in september. We had to spend money to get there, for attire, to stay 2 nights in the hotel, etc and we gave a pretty generous gift, especially since they're older and more well established and we're broke. 3 months later we get the thank you...it took 3 months and there's not even a photo and it says 'Sorry this note took so long, we were busy enjoying newlywed life.thanks for your generous gift, we're going to use it as spending money for our honeymoon in (list of like 5 islands'

They went to like hawaii or somethgn right after the wedding, but that was just a 'mini-moon' to them

I don't know why it pissed me off, and it probably shouldn't, but it did.

I know you're supposed to give gifts and not care what they use it for, but to use, we spend a lot of money between getting there, clothing, staying there and the gift (probably around $1000 all together) and to them it was nothing, when to us, it was really a huge huge strain, especially since we're planning our own wedding

I just don't like how they referred to it as 'spending money'. It seems like they were rubbing it in a bit. I dunno.

Yeah it really felt like 'haha, we're loaded, and your gift was chump change'..

It really pissed me off! They could have just stopped at 'thanks for the generous gift' and called it a day..

and it took3 months to send a thank you with NO PHOTO..come on..enjoying newlywed life? they've been living together for years....ugh...

And I mean after spending all that money to get there and stay at the blocked hotel (the hyatt!!!!) we gave them I think $250 or $300. I don't think we were being cheap...I'm still in school!

some people may have all the money in the whole world and still possess not a bit of taste, or class!

I'd have been mad too.

It's one thing to say 'thanks for the generous gift' it's another to tell people how you spent it. Information like that isn't necessary and is in bad taste.

Maybe when they come to your wedding, you can write in their thank you card 'Thank you for your generous gift, we're going to be using it for all of those S&M sex toys that FH and I wanted to get!!'

It sounds like it's just a poorly written thank you note....they probably meant nothing by it. At least you received a thank you!

I wouldn't have put in the card what we used the money for. But in all honesty, 3 months to get a thank you is not all that long. Technically you have up to 1 year to send a Thank you (not that I would).

DH and I have been married 1 1/2 months and my thank you's are no where near ready to go out... in fact, I haven't even gotten them yet from my photographer!

I never realized it was in bad taste to mention how you spent the money. I have to still write TY notes for my e-party and was planning to mention that the money we received was put towards the purchase of our new condo. So, I guess I should scratch that idea

We once got a thank you note 8 months later that was like a Christmas card - a standard photo and the words 'thank you' pre-written on it. That was it.

I'm still waiting for a thank you for a wedding I went to in June 2004.

I would be pissed off too. It's completely inconsiderate.

I would find both of those accounts rude! At least take the time out to hand write your thank you!!!!

All the thnak you note books I read after the wedding said you should write what you anticipate spending the money on after thanking the guests for their generous/thoughtful/kind gift. All of our guests that gave us cash were told we were using it towards furniture for our new home.

We really spent it on the down payment for the house. But I think her 'spending money' is not a nice way to tell her guests that was what the money was for -- even if that was what they actually used the money towards.

i would just let it go...was she being petty/catty? maybe, but there is nothing you can do. clearly she looks like the idiot and not you.

I was brought up to write Thank you notes and mention how I used the money. Now I'm afraid to do that.

We got a pre written thank you over a year after a wedding and they spelling my FIRST NAME wrong! My name is Kathleen and this was from a family member of mine! Everyone in my family got the same pre typed message...it was rude
