Re: Wedding vs. Marriage

of course, marriage (working on making it healthy and successful) and learning to become 'one' with your FH is the most important thing in the world but at the same time i think that if you try hard enough you can do both...

for me, i have always pictured my dream wedding AND my dream marriage/life. i've always had goals, aspirations, dreams, etc. and i plan on doing both equally well and i think so far i've done that very well (always put my relationship and FH first and at the same time i am able to plan a great wedding).

i think every woman has it in her to do this and there shouldn't be a reason to have one go against another when we can do both very well not to mention everything else in life like our careers, raising children, enjoying life, saving money, etc.

wow, this thread did make me think though and i think it's an important thing for everyone to realize! no one should ever have to sacrifice anything when they can just push a little harder and you can have it all-- so, i guess you CAN have your cake and eat it too if you really want!!

Re: Wedding vs. Marriage

I definitely think that the marriage itself is so much more important than the wedding. I am so excited for the wedding - I've been waiting patiently for 7 years, but I do not want to go overboard on the spending because I'd like to save that money for important things for the future because that is going to matter most.

Re: Wedding vs. Marriage

Of course its more important, but we all tend to get caught up in the excitment and craziness of planning our weddings and put that aside.

I know when I get annoyed anf frustrated with this whole wedding planning process, I have to remind myself that I;m getting married to the man I love and it doesnt matter if we have chinese food and get married in the street. In the end, I'll be married.

I think its good to try and put things into perspective every now and then.

Re: Wedding vs. Marriage

I am so glad you have posted this! Whenever I read some of the threads on LIW I am constantly thinking about who really concerns themselves with this question. At first I was a crazy bride and it was all about MY day and fulfilling MY dream. FH brought me back down to earth by constantly questioning me on what is going to happen the day after the wedding and how are we going to make our marriage work so that we are not one of those statistics that end in divorce. We are coming to a reasonable compromise he understands my 'dream' and wants to see it come to fruition, but I also respect and see his POW. I realize that I need to focus more on being a beautiful wife and not just a beautiful bride.

Re: Wedding vs. Marriage

marriage is definitely so much more important than your wedding, but it is nice to have a wonderful wedding day you will treasure forever, kind of like a beautiful beginning

Re: Wedding vs. Marriage

I think alot of people tend to lose sight of the bigger picture-but you get excited and you want it to be a beautiful day-there are sometimes when I read what people are spending on some things and no thats not for me-but if they have the money to do it more power to them! But I think it does get out of hand.

I think some of the planning process is a test too-it tests your skills in communicating and being flexible with your partners needs when you dont agree and must compromise-so I think it depends on which way you look at it.

Might I add-I know SOMEONE that is completely having a wedding because it will be better then others, and that stinks because her wedding has already lost meaning. You dont have a reception and a wedding to impress people you have it to celebrate you love!

THE END

Re: Wedding vs. Marriage

The Marriage is far more important. The wedding is only for 5-6 hours but the marriage will be for a life time. It is not how spectacular the wedding is going to be but rather the life both people will live after all the fiesta.

Re: Wedding vs. Marriage

No I agree w/ you totally. You would be surprised how many corners I am cutting for the simple fact that it's ONE day out of my entire marriage. And it's my wedding not a showcase for others.

I am more focused on my upcoming marriage.

like stupid - how am I going to get him to help me out more questions and blah blah blah...

Re: Wedding vs. Marriage

I also agree. When things seem even a little stressful I try and step back and look at the big picture which is obviously the marriage. I sometimes want to leave everything and just get married already. Even though there is so much preparation put into the wedding what you have in the end is the marraige I would give anything to have the Marriage of my dreams instead of the wedding!!!

Re: Wedding vs. Marriage

Yes I agree. FH and I have had discussions and he's told me how somethimes he sees me so focused on this weeding that he thinks I'm more interested in getting married then just being married to him (which of course is not the case)
But us woman tend to get a little carried away over our wedding planning it's true. I feel as though I am ready for marriage mostly b/c I've lived with him for over 4 years. We've grown acustomed to each others ways (and sometimes still discover things) and learned to adjust living with each other. I honestly think if I didn't live with him and we just got married things would be extremely difficult in the marriage itself. It might not be for everyone, but in my experience living together b4 ur married is a great way to prepapre you for marriage.
XOXOXOXO
Kitty
