I didn't have wands but I really think that they are something that you can DIY. I seen lots of posts where the brides have made them and they do not seem that difficult.

Re: wedding wands
I made mine, but they were tedious but much cheaper than buying them I think. I bought a bunch of bells too which was a waste of money because they get tangled in the ribbons.
I STILL haven't attached the bells, only to one of them, and the bells dont make noise anyway if you wave them to get maximum swishing.
acmoore for the dowels, home depot for they eyelet screws, various places for the ribbon.
Good luck!

Re: wedding wands
I am going to make mine. It is a summer project for the BMs and I!
Yea. I think so. I dont have all my receipts for the different parts though.
It all depends on how much ribbon you get/WIDTH/LENGTH etc.
Dowels - pack of twelve 5/16 or 7/16 or something like that. if you use 50% coupons from acmoore were between $1/$2. I forget the exact cost. Need to make several trips or bring people with you to buy them.
100 eyescrews were somewhere between $6-$10 from home depot.
Then the ribbon. - depends where you get it. I bought mine from ebay, thin ribbon but long so they would swoosh a lot.
I liked the look of thick long ribbon better, but when I tried it on, the ribbon fell flat in most cases and didnt move a lot. Not a lot of swishing without moving the wand like crazy. It was too heavy. Thick ribbon worked better shorter, but I didn't like the shortness of it. I wanted long swishing ribbon.
Eyescrews were a pain to put in. definitely use a pair of pliers to initially get them in with a few twists and have them grab onto the wood, and then use alligator pliers (or thin screwdriver) to help quicken screwing them in. Just stick one of the noses in the hole and twist it around and it should screw in easily. I wouldn't do it by hand unless you want indents in your fingers and to waste even more time.
Cutting ribbon and tying is a tedious job but easy.
I skipped the fray check. I dont think it is necessary. If any fray really bad you just have to melt the edge ever so slightly with a tea light/lighter whatever.
