On Saturday, FH and I attended a wedding in Pennsylvania and boy are they different than any NY or NJ wedding I've ever been too.
During the reception I had to pee SO BAD but I didn't want to get up and miss the best man and maid of honor speeches. We ended up having our appetizer, salad, and dinner before they even spoke!
The cocktail hour was cheese, crackers and some veggies. THAT WAS IT! FH and I were like, where's the food food? I think you only really get insane cocktail hours on LI b/c this was a joke.
Lastly, the bar closed an hour before the wedding ended. People were pissed. Apparently, one of the younger guests (he was about 16) was able to get some drinks and puked all over the hallway! So for this we all had to suffer and sip water the rest of the evening.
I just totally realize why Long Island weddings are as expensive as they are. No where else can compare!
Have you girls been to any out of state weddings and felt the same disbelief as me?!

I've been to a FL wedding and it was just as grand and lovely as a NY wedding but a quarter of the price! I know it doesn't compare to NY standards but all I really wanted was an outdoor rustic wedding and in NY you need to have endless funds to do that which is disappointing in my situation but I also try not to get caught up in all the 'stuff' of a NY wedding because at a certain point it really does go from the commitment you're making to how many people did or didn't like your favors and why there were only 2 flowers on your cake when you wanted 3 etc. etc. Open bar is the biggest thing I've heard that other states don't do but I would take a less extravagant wedding to have some extra cha-ching $ in the pocket after the fact.
Ditto!!!!
P.S. We loved the Riviera but my in laws got married there 20 years ago and we figured we'd try something a little different ;)

Weddings are so different out of state!
I'm actually going to my first out of state wedding in October. FH lived in Las Vegas for awhile, including the first 2 years of our relationship, and one of his good friends who still lives out there is getting married so we're going out there for the wedding. It's not an on-the-strip, flashy kind of wedding...it's at one of the golf courses out there. I'm really curious to see what it's like and if/how it's different from weddings here. Should be fun!

no one does it like NY does.
Oh my! After reading this, I take back all the whining I did when venue shopping about reading all those five page menus and the price tags that came along with it. LMAO Cheese & Crackers and just veggies for cocktail? NO WAY!!!!
Our family puts out a spread of food any time someone comes over for coffee. Thats why food & service was top on our list when shopping. Its all about the FOOD!
so happy to a LI NY BRIDE

2015 crasher!
LOL I have to tell you I went to a wedding in Tennessee and the ceremony was on the top of a mountain (ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!) and then we went back to the resort for the reception and for cocktail hour there was nachos with cheese sauce and salsa and 1 half tray of swedish meatballs.... and they never refilled the meatballs.. the cocktail house was in the hallway in front of the reception area and we were all bumping into each other
The Reception itself was beautiful and the timeline was very different then what we are used to. They didn't announce the cake cutting, they didn't roll it out on the dance floor and it was a buffet where you served yourself (I personally do not like buffets at a wedding but it you're going to have one, you should have servers!) Since the county they got married in was a dry county, they did not provide liquor and they were told a week before the wedding that they were able to bring in booze (otherwise the family would have FREAKED!!)
Everything was pretty simple and a bit plain but when you're with family, it really doesn't matter.... but in response.. yes, weddings out of state are SOOO different!! Whenever I talk about budget with out of state family, they can't believe the amount of money that is spent here on weddings! A family member in PA is getting married in October so I can't wait to see what it's like!! They have to bring in their own alcohol too...
