My aunt and I are having a disagreement about weddings today. She just went to a wedding and said the 'energy' was missing from how weddings used to be. So take this poll please and let me know if you are doing the following things...
1. garter toss 2. bouquet toss 3. cake cutting (with the cake taken to the center of the dance floor for all guests to watch, with a song like 'the bride cuts the cake', of course with cake smashing in each others faces 4. table pictures (will your photographer take shots of each table) 5. videographer going from table to table to interview guests or get well wishes from them on tape 6.ORGANIZED DANCING: conga lines, etc... 7. giveaways
Please help me out here, cause I am getting bashed for saying I am not doing a lot of these things. I am being told my wedding wont be fun! I need to know what others are doing, for my own sanity!!!

Re: Weddings today...please take poll
The only thing on your list that we are doing is the cake cutting; not with the cake on the dance floor & hopefully no cake in the face! We'll be doing some dances, like our first dance, mother-son, father-daughter, and perhaps the anniversary dance.

Hi Christy, I am not doing table pictures or having my videographer go around from table to table. I also won't be doing giveways or any organized dances such as the conga line, electric slide or chicken dance. It's not really my thing. Its your day and you have to do whats best for you and what will make you happy. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

The only thing that I did was the cake. We did it to an instrumental version of our wedding song. Everything else on your list we didnt do. The one thing that did take place was a conga line at my wedding that I requested the band not do, but that was typical of them.

1. garter toss 2. bouquet toss 3. cake cutting (with the cake taken to the center of the dance floor for all guests to watch, with a song like 'the bride cuts the cake', of course with cake smashing in each others faces 4. table pictures (will your photographer take shots of each table) 5. videographer going from table to table to interview guests or get well wishes from them on tape 6.ORGANIZED DANCING: conga lines, etc... 7. giveaways
1. NO WAY 2. Yes but only b/c we had lots of single girls and not enough married couples for an anniversary dance 3. Yes to the cutting, no to the 'bride cuts the cake', no to the cake smashing 4. Yes b/c my FH insisted 5. Nope 6. Nope 7. Not in my wildest dreams
I think the difference between wedding that have those things and wedding that dont are just the level of formality. Formal affairs should not have food fights, conga lines, etc.. but that doesnt mean they are any better or worse. For my wedding I wanted an upscale/elegant feeling and thats why I wouldnt include it. If you want more of a rowdy party atmosphere then those are things you can include.

I also had a similar discussion with my family recently. I had said 'NO' to all of the above, and they said, 'So in other words NO FUN!'. You call my 15 yr old nephew with his head up some drunk bm's dress with a garter in his teeth fun?! Well, I guess in some families it is! Seriously though, I agree with sonicstef, it has alot to do with the level of formality. The bottom line, as always is, it's your wedding. Aunt Alice will have to wait till the next wedding to do the chicken dance!

Re: Weddings today...please take poll
The only things we are doing is the boquet toss and the cake cutting (but not making a big production out of it). Most formal weddings I've been to lately haven't done most of these, so don't worry about it at all.

I think it depends on the tone of your wedding. If you want a formal elegant or something with a more relaxed feel 1. No- I think some of my relatives might faint we have some really old fashioned older family members 2. Yes 3. Yes but maybe not the smashing part 4. I might put table camera - Personally I can't stand when you go on a cruise and come to your table when you have a mouthful of food and ask to take your picture - so I don't think I want to do it here. Unless the guest choose to take that photo themselves. 5. probably not same reason as above - plus I feel it puts some guests on the spot. 6. Just the traditional father daughter dance, etc. no conga lines 7. No giveaways.

we're doing everything EXCEPT organized dancing. OH HELLS NO! there will be no conga lines, macarena or electric slide at my wedding. I also dont want 'the bride cuts the cake' so we'll have a different song played
Our friends are drunks and bikers so that alone gaurantees a great party.

1) No. 2) Our DJ suggested instead of doing that we should call all the married couples out to the dance floor and give the couple that has been married the longest the bouquet. We're thinking of going with that idea. 3) Yes, but not to the bride cuts the cake-probably When I'm 64 4) Nope 5) No 6) Some, but not going crazy with them. Our friends are huge drinkers so I don't think we're going to need motivation to dance 7) No. No offense to anyone, but that reminds me of a Sweet 16.
I don't think we'll be missing out by not doing any of those things. It breaks up the party too much.

Re: Weddings today...please take poll
Christy its ok. FI had a fight with his mothers mother in law (his mom's 3rd husbands mother) because we're bikers and we're going to have a few things that are harley davidson (cake topper, my garter, cake cutting set, and a special song dedicated to our best man and matron who are married to each other) and this old bag said motorcycles and bikers do not go nor belong with a wedding. so brian said so what does that mean melissa and i dont belong at our own wedding.
some people just have a very old fashioned belief and wont change.
