My aunt and I are having a disagreement about weddings today. She just went to a wedding and said the 'energy' was missing from how weddings used to be. So take this poll please and let me know if you are doing the following things...
1. garter toss 2. bouquet toss 3. cake cutting (with the cake taken to the center of the dance floor for all guests to watch, with a song like 'the bride cuts the cake', of course with cake smashing in each others faces 4. table pictures (will your photographer take shots of each table) 5. videographer going from table to table to interview guests or get well wishes from them on tape 6.ORGANIZED DANCING: conga lines, etc... 7. giveaways
Please help me out here, cause I am getting bashed for saying I am not doing a lot of these things. I am being told my wedding wont be fun! I need to know what others are doing, for my own sanity!!!
no...we had the anniversary dance...and it made the winning wife cry...priceless...

I didn't really want the cake cutting in public...but mom did...I gave in on this one...we did it to 'when I'm 64'...I don't think smashing the cake into your loved one's face is traditional...it symbolizes that you will take care of each other...

I didn't do it...it seems to interupt people...but it is nice to have a picture of every guest...
5. videographer going from table to table to interview guests or get well wishes from them on tape

6.ORGANIZED DANCING: conga lines, etc...
well we had YMCA...which is my dads favorite song...how could I not? we had a blast...and we had the Spanish Hora...lol...all the Jewish guests were in shock...but loved it...DH's uncle plays it at family get togethers and we play simon says...

I almost choked when my mom said the most fun she had at a wedding was at our neighbors...b/c they gave away things...no we did not give away things....

no to all of the above. We had what they called a quite cake cutting. We cut it and took pictures but it wasn't announced or in the middle of the dancefloor.
I think we had more fun at our wedding because of the lack of interruptions. Most of the things you mention upset the music flow and stop dancing.
Stick to what you want - don't worry about pressure from others. You'll have a great time.

The only thing we are doing is the cake cutting, but without the 'bride cuts the cake' song (maybe we'll use 'How Sweet it is' or something similar) and DEFINITELY without the smashing!

LOL! And we will not use the song :the bride cuts the cake'. We may use the song 'So Happy Together', but aren't sure yet.

Bouquet and garter toss...yes if I have enough single women...right now I can only count 2 so I might not
Cake cutting...only if I want to kill FH....he's allergic to eggs and therefore, cake.
Pictures and interviews...I wouldn't even be inviting half of these people if it wouldn't cause WWIII so NO!
Giveaways - NO!!!
I am SO SICK AND TIRED OF THESE PEOPLE ADDING THEIR 2 CENTS!!!
I'm at the point that I don't care who has a good time at my wedding except me and FH....and my dad but he's the only person I know who doesn't give me a hard time!

Only doing 1, 2 , 3 I've always felt uncomfortable when the camera guy comes over and says say something to the bride and groom... UGH!! so i'm not doing it! I hate conga lines, FH hates electric slide. And no give aways... its cheesy! And if any of our parents complain... I'll just say our motto--- 'it's OUR wedding... not yours!!!'

Just an FYI: I have been to wedding that didnt have a cake cutting or did a private one. I dont really mind but I know that at every wedding like this I have heard the guests complaining that they didnt get to see it (even if there was nothing to see).

The only thing on your list that we did was the cake. And that wasn't in the middle of the room, it was to Adam Sandler's 'Grow Old With YOu' and there was no cake smashing involved.
For us, we didn't want to do the garter/bouquet toss since most of our guests were either engaged/married, and we certainly weren't going to have the table pictures put into our album if the photographer took them. My dad took pictures of the tables for us. The two of us hate organized dances, so we didn't have them at all, and we did not do giveaways since we had a band.

The photographer only took immediate family shots.

No just the bridal party and parents.

We only had YMCA, its my husbands favorite.
