Hi all, hoping you can help. FH and I are pretty set on what we want: a 'wedding weekend'. We've found some inns and hotels online that will take care of a whole weekend, and it goes like this:
Some guests will come on Friday night and we'll have dinner and maybe a bonfire by a shore/lake. Saturday morning we'll go hiking, biking, kayaking, something like that, and then get ready for the wedding. Most guests will arrive on Saturday afternoon/evening for the ceremony/reception. Saturday night we'll all party at the bar or restaurant of the inn where we're staying. Sunday morning we'll do brunch, and people will drive home.
This is apparently pretty common in New England, and I went to a wedding like this in Maine that was PERFECT (but 8 hours away) 3 years ago. I'm finding so much info online, I was wondering if any of you had been to a 'wedding weekend' and could let me know where it was and how you liked it? Thanks.
I've never been to one, but it sounds perfect! I lived in Connecticut for a while and I know this was pretty common up there with my friends.... If I remember where, I will let you know!
My friends did this upstate. There is the VillaRoma resort. It pretty big in the catskill area and they definitly do weddings and will accomodate all of your guest. My parents have time share there so if you want more info FM.
There is also a lot of places in Nyack ( just past the Tapenzee bridge) that caters to this type of thing and they have a lot of wedding weekends there. We just went to one recently and everyone you talk to in the hotels is staying for weddings. You should check out the area, the're are a lot of catering halls in that area.
Thanks for the info, but according to their website, the VillaRoma burned down this summer. And I'm looking for an inn/hotel where we can stay rather than a catering hall.
Please, somebody out there has to have gone to, or at least heard of, a nice wedding weekend. I found a few places on Google but it's so hard to tell from just websites. Anyone?
This is definitely very common in New England (I live in Boston and almost every wedding I go to is a whole weekend of activities). You don't necessarily have to go away somewhere to do this. My parents had a 'wedding weekend' for my sister in Ogunquit, ME (obviously a destination wedding) ad did the same for me in NY. For our wedding, we had a dinner, went to a Mets game and hosted a brunch the day after the wedding...It was great!
If you are set on having it at a destination hotel/resort, you probably want to look at hotels that can accomodate your entire guest list...
One that comes to mind is The Water's Edge in Westbrook, CT...
A friend of mine just went to a wedding there and loved it!
ETA: For our wedding weekend, we just arranged for transportation for our guests to the different activities since they were staying at a couple of different hotels.

Thank you! Water's Edge does look beautiful, and the prices aren't bad at all. I've seen other CT hotel/spas where it's $140 per person, plus $5 per person per hour for an open bar! So I stopped looking at hotel/spas, but will definitely check this one out. Thank you so much for this and for the other suggestions, which I'm off to Google right now...
Hey Dava, Didn't KT go to a wedding in the Catskills? Mohonk is way expensive, but there have to be other places up near there. Sounds like an awesome idea and a fun weekend away!
I would love any additional info about this. One of my BMs is getting married and was looking for a destination type wedding for a small wedding in the catskills. Probably about 75 people max. I've already emailed her a link to this topic!! TIA!!

My wedding will be about that size, between 75 and 90 people. We're looking to 'take over' an inn for the weekend. I've found more options in New England than in the Catskills so far, but my friend went to a wedding at the Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, NY (Catskills) that she said would be perfect for me. It looks a little 'hippie' on the website, I don't know, I'll have to see it for myself!
Here's the link, please pass it on, and if your friend finds anything good, tell her to post it here! Thanks so much!

Full moon is actually one of the places that they had looked into. Unfortunately, you had to guarantee that ALL the rooms would be booked for a Friday/Saturday wedding. So they would have to do a Sunday/Monday wedding which they didn't think was appropriate to ask. I think it was a little pricey for them. However, they thought it was absolutely PERFECT for them! Thanks for the info!! If you find anything else let me know!!
