I would try to eat more protein like other said...and when you're on the elliptical work in different intervals...high intensity, low intensity....that's what works for me. Make sure you get really sweaty!

Could it be that you're already skinny enough?

That could be too, sometimes you think you need to lose weight and you are actually where you should be (learned that during weight watchers).
You should be eating more though based on what you listed in your post, especially since you are exercising.

Re: ***... weight issue...
Losing weight from the exercise requires not just time but increase in heart rate. Use the heart rate monitor on the machine to make sure that most of the 30 minutes on the elliptical are at heart rates that are high enough for your age/weight. (for example, my heart rate gets up to 150bpm) Same thing with the weights. Make sure you are doing enough reps and lifting enough weight to make your heart go fast. You should be able to feel that baby PUMP.
Also, don't eat ANYTHING after dinner. And don't eat peanut butter imo. It's full of FAT and carbs. Try to limit your fat intake to 30 grams of fat per day and keep carbs low. (see the back of food labels to see fat & carbs) That means, don't eat much bread and potatoes. Get your carbs from stuff like rice or fruits. But you don't have to totally cut that stuff, just keep it low.
And you don't need to eat just salad. Grilled chicken, turkey or fish are very good for you and low in fat. The chicken and turkey have protein too. Also, eating 'real food' is much easier to live with long term than eating just salad.
Try this for another three weeks. You will drop some lbs. for sure.
Good luck!

Give yourself more time too - I've been having the same problem and I think part of it is due to just getting older and your metabolism slowing. It starts happening in your 20s from what I hear.
Maybe you should try measuring yourself instead - sometimes that's a more accurate judge. Or try on something that used to be tight - maybe that'll let you know how far you've gotten.
Not true!!! I was heavy until my late 20's, and then began dropping all of it - my metabolism was fast because I exercised and ate healthfully. The slower metabolism is a myth! I am 32 years old now and thinner than I was in my teens!!!
I should clarify - it is true if you're comparing similar behavior. You were working out in your late 20's and sped up your metabolism, compared to being sedentary as a teen. But I'm not talking about what happens if your behavior's completely different - I'm comparing doing the same thing then and now. For me, 5 years ago, working out twice a week and making small dietary changes would led to quick and dramatic weight loss. Now, I have to work much much harder to get my metabolism going and lose weight, and it takes more time; and I have to make much bigger changes to my diet. I still lose weight, but it was so much easier when I was younger, and it used to happen so quickly.

I was having the same problem. I'm into my diet and working out 3 weeks and I finally lost some weight. when your older its harder and what helped me get through the frustration is my trainer showed me the size of 5 lbs of fat compared to the size of 5 lbs of muscle and its more than twice the size. so try to think of that. muscle weighs so much more than fat. maybe try doing more cardio and less weights.

OK.. so I have been working out for a little over 3 weeks. I have done 5 days a week, at 30 mintues on the elliptical and then some arm weights.
I have been watching what I am eating and changed my eating habits. Instead of not eating all day at work and binging when I get home, I eat oatmeal for breakfast, a small salad (balsamic vinegar for dressing only) and a slimfast lmeal bar (250 cal). After I get home I have a little snack like carrots, a turkey wrap, jello, etc. and then I eat a small portion of whatever my mom made for dinner and take extra veggies. After dinner I will have a piece of fruit or toast with some peanut butter.
I have yet to lose ANYTHING!!!!!
I know muscle weighs more than fat and all that junk... but I thought Id lose SOMETHING.
What is going on?
My best friend & future sister-in-law are both personal trainers. 1st thing you have to drink a lot of water. When you do cardio you need to do at least 45 min. Don't do the same machine all the time though cause your body gets used to it. Just doing cardio doesn't work. You have to do a whole work out. You are supposed to eat 5-6 small meals a day. You have to remeber it takes time to loose weight. Especially for girls. Good luck with everything!
I usually go to the gym 4-5 times a week. I do 45 min of cardio then I do cruches, weight training ect. I have to keep mixing it up. for Ex. cardio is every day I do to the gym then I do legs one day, the next day arms, following day abs & back ect.

Re: ***... weight issue...
it takes time to lose weight - it took me almost 6 months to lose 10lbs but I did it the healthy way - eating less and working out but I also treated myself once in a while. Plus, That was 2 years ago and the 10lbs (and then some) is still off.
Dont look for a quick fix - it should be a lifestyle change.
best of luck

Re: ***... weight issue...
I misread this- I thought you said 3 years!
to be honest- 30 minutes of cardio is good to maintain- but not to lose
kick it up to 45 or 1 hour
and you need to do total body weights- not just areas
muscle burns more caloires- and you need to tone and build you major muscle groups inorder to do- your core, arms, legs, chest and back

that's actually not true about the time...it's the intensity. you need to burn for a certain time at varying intensity, but for someone getting back into the workout game, 30 mins at mod-high intensity should start to produce results.
you tweak as your body adjusts, but you can just up and run on a treamill for 45 minutes out of no where. that wouldn't be healthy either.

I agree- it's also about the intensity- but you will burn more calroes in a longer period of time- and you burn fat at lower intensity
and when you first start working out it's esier to run at 5.0 on a trend for 45 minutes then 6.5 for 30 mins-

Great point!!! All good advice, esp. mixing up your exercise. I hit plateaus constantly since I work out a lot and it's hard to keep changing.
As for South Beach...just some info...it works wonders for some people, but I followed it strictly for over a month and had ZERO change and couldn't work out as much since I needed more carbs. Still love the principles of it but I don't think it's for everyone.

Re: ***... weight issue...
ok thanks for all the responses...
I didnt mention that I work in a school so for me to try and eat lunhc PERIOD is difficult and that is why I eat the slim fast bar and salad and then eat a more normal lunch when I get home from work. I only have 42 minutes to pee, run to the office, make phones etc and fit lunhc in there too.
As far as the working out.. I have an elliptical at home. I went to the gym evryday in the summer and was able to chnage up workouts BUT im in grad school and teaching and have NO time to do the gym. I also have a tred mill and a gazelle.
I def think I need to step up the weight training and have to get back into my 'buff brides' book.
I dont care the the weight isnt coming off as much as I dont really SEE a difference.
IM 5'8/5'9 and am currently like 148 pounds.

Sounds like you are at a healthy weight for your height. Do you just want to tone?

64oz water daily. Eat six times a day. Weigh and measure. You need fish and meat. Oatmeal is not really filling. Eat oatmeal and some fruits.
