Weight Loss Tips?

Original post by shopaholic07

Hi all--sorry for crashing.....does anyone have any weight loss tips that have worked for them? I had no trouble maintaining my weight over the past two years but ever since the wedding, the pounds are creeping up on me!

Also, what is a healthy amount of weight to lose in one week?

Thanks!

Drink lots of water. Cut out sugary drinks such as juice and soda. Try and limit your intake of alcohol - it's just empty calories. Get yourself preportioned snacks like 100-calorie packs and eat more fruits and veggies. Grill and broil your fish and meats. Don't eat things that add extra calories like mayo, sour cream, etc. And definitely use portion control. Write everything down too. You'll notice a big difference when you start seeing what you're actually put into your mouth.

One thing that really helped me was cutting out ALL white, processed foods. Eat all whole grains! Brown rice, whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, etc. EVERYTHING!

Also, exercise is key.

Of course I am currently not following what I should be...but I do totally agree with the above....it absolutely worked for me.

I cut out the white carbs for two weeks and dropped 6 pounds! Though when you exercise you crave carb A LOT. To be more full, I filled up on proteins (lean chicken, beef) and veggies.

I would not drink any soda, or fruit juices, coffee or tea, I would stick to green tea or just water.

I would though treat myself to only one small individual dove dark chocolate square if I really craved sweets.

I just started reading 'Skinny *****' and it is chock full of good information. It is only $10. You should pick it up.

Unless you want to become a Vegan that book won't help. In the end they basically say that's what you need to do to lose weight.

Does anyone know the requirements for the lapband?

YOU DON'T NEED LAPBAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You need to be clinically, morbid obese , which you are so far from IMO

I agree with the food diary tip. There's a great free website called www.fitday.com. You can search for and enter in foods, and it shows you a pie chart of where your calories are coming from (fat vs. carbs vs. protein), how much you need to lose per week to reach your goal, how many calories you're burning from different excercise, and a lot more.

It's a great site, and the biggest thing is just becoming AWARE of how many calories are in the foods you eat. There were quite a few things that I thought were 'healthy' that ended up being no-no's in terms of calories.

I agree - that is so NOT for people who are moderately overweight - diet and exercise will work fine if you stick to it!!!

I've been working out on a regular basis, cutting back on carbs a bit, and eating smaller portions and the pounds are dropping. Oh yeah, and drink lots of water You def don't need lapband.

Weight Watchers. I went from a size 16 to a 6 and am even now fitting into a 4! It works, it teaches you the healthy way to eat without cutting anything from your diet completely.

Before and after pictures in my albums.

I disagree. I dont think you need to follow it down to every last word in order for it to help. I could never be a vegan (I love my steak tooooo much for that), but I do think that some chapters were very informative and helpful (such as the section where they discussed coffee and soda).

Eat healthy foods, in their natural form as much as possible (as opposed to canned, frozen, processed)

drink lots of water! try to cut out sodas, alcohol and juice that isn't 100% juice. Keep in mind that juice still has lots of calories so don't go crazy.

make sure you eat breakfast -- it gets your metabolism going. I try to eat protein for breakfast.

Make sure you get exercise. I am a gym rat and it really helps me keep in shape.

I guess that part is true but I was already a non-soda and coffee drinker before I read the book. I thought the chapter on Neutrasweet was also interesting. Yes, some chapters alone are helpful, but the book is meant to encourage you to change your way of life to be a vegan (and I couldn't be one either).

Well, I am def. not becoming a vegan but after reading the coffee section it made me realize that I should be able to wake up in the morning and not rely on coffee (or anything else) to feel 'awake'. This morning I had a cup of green tea instead and although I am a little sleepy I am giong to stick with it. I had no idea how bad it is for you.

I read somewhere that frozen vegetables are actually BETTER for you than fresh. Sounds insane, I know, but the reason is because frozen veggies are packed IMMEDIATELY following harvesting - fresh go on a truck, then to the warehouse, then to the store. The frozen ones are actually fresher and have more nutrients.

This is the only time I would advocate buying frozen - when talking about veggies. I buy them a lot (they also don't go bad on you!) and love em. Canned, however, is very bad for you - too many preservatives.

Seriously? Damn it....I make canned veggies all the time! I am now going to switch to fresh or frozen. Thanks Ladies!

Yeah, they have to put all sorts of things in the can to make the veggies stay. Corn I think is ok for some reason. But try frozen - I feel like they are always on sale and I think they taste great. I get broccoli, cauliflower, corn, spinach, carrots, etc.
