Re: Weird banking issue, need help
I personally would NOT touch that money untill I know for SURE it's mine. I also had money deposited into my account once & 1 month later the error was found.Thank goodness I never spent it!

Re: Weird banking issue, need help
One thing I learned in life when I had a similiar thing happen...If it was a mistake, and it has to do with money, SOMEONE will figure it out and if it does not belong to you it will go bye bye!

Re: Weird banking issue, need help
check the account disclosure...I am sure it says that if the bank deposits money in error, they can remove the funds as well. I am sure they will find the error sooner or later...

I would wait also. You don't want to have to pay that back.

Re: Weird banking issue, need help
I have had the same thing happen to me. One day there was $10,000 too much in my account. My feeling was that it was not my money - thus not mine to use. I called the bank and sure enough they made an error - turns out it was supposed to go to my Mom's account and they put it in mine!!!! My Mom was happy to 'find' her money! My advice - do not take what is not yours - I believe what comes around goes around!

Re: Weird banking issue, need help
Do not spend the money! The statute of limitations for the bank to take the money back is something like seven years. If you spend it - you might be in a bind when they come for it. I'd call the company that deposited the money directly and have them look into it. In the end, you'll be liable to give it back and if you don't have it you can get in a lot of trouble.

Re: Weird banking issue, need help
I wouldn't spend it either until it is 100% verified by the company that issued the deposit. Banks make mistakes all the time, they put the money in your account of course they are going to say its yours. It would be awful to spend this money now and then when the bank realizes the mistake and takes the money back - regardless of your balance. In fact this happened to one of the owners of my company. Several deposits were made to his account and he had no idea why. It took months to get it straightened out with the bank.

I agree with the other ladies. If you are unsure where it came from, etc??? DEFINATELY hold off on using it!

Re: Weird banking issue, need help
Believe it or not, this just happened to me last week! My old job that I left a month ago paid me my full paycheck - but they realized it and 2 days later, they automatically took the money out. I know ADP has authorization to do this in the event of an error. You might want to contact the company that paid you and double check with them though, because it has happened now more than once - and also, if this is a paycheck and you really are not entitled to the money and they take it back from you, they may need to provide you with an amended W-2 form because by paying you extra, they can mess up your taxes.

Re: Weird banking issue, need help
I would call the bank and tell them to investigate the deposit - the sooner you know the better.

Re: Weird banking issue, need help
Do not spend the money! I had something similar happen to me in reverse. My check accidentally (bank error) got put into someone else's account for $12,000. I get paid weekly and do not make $12,000/week and do not have direct deposit. My bank receipt was fine but the bank screwed up.It took me over three weeks beofre I found out. I balance my account once a month but before I did that month, the nosy accountant at my company saw my check was cashed for that large amount and alerted me. It took the bank 5 business days to investigate and get the correct money to me! I had to provide all this proof and receipts. THank goodness I am so anal about my banking or else the investigation would have taken a lot longer.

Re: Weird banking issue, need help
This happened to me.. I went to Kia to look into buying one of their cars, and i put down a 50.00 deposit. well i decided not to buy the car and they were going to credit my 50.00.. well about a week later i called my bank to find out i had 17,000.00 extra dollars!! yes 17,000.00!!! so i was like YEA!!! i called the bank and they said they would look into it and called me back and said that it was not a bank error and that this co. actually deposited the money.. then a week goes by and i called kia like 2 hundred times and no one calls me back. and i call my bank and now i have 32,000.00!!! YES 32,000.00!!!! so i keep calling and someone finaly calls me back (and the reason i did this is because these companies evenutally find out where the money goes and then you need to give it back!) they said they would charge the account back, and the dopey B@#$@#$@, deposit another 1,000.00.. so i eventually had to go drop a check off to the stupid peopple!!!! that would have been a great way to buy my own house! thats for sure!!!

Re: Weird banking issue, need help
what matters is who put the money in your account - if it was a company that authorized the deposit, the bank can't take the money from you, the company has to ask you for the money back. If the bank is the one that made the error, then they have the right to correct it. The only thing is that since it has happened more than once you should make a good faith effort to try to remedy the situation.I double paid my insurance payment once and when I tried to stop it the bank said there was nothing they could do because the money had already reached the other account. Hope that helps!

Re: Weird banking issue, need help
Don't spend the money. It is a mistake on the company's part. Eventually they will see it in their account and they may take the money back out without telling you after you spent all this money. It would cause a problem for you in the end.Good Luck

Re: Weird banking issue, need help
I worked in a bank for 8 years, trust me, find out why that $$$$ is in your account, and DO NOT spend it !!!!!!Bank error or not, you will be responsible for paying every penny back if you spend it.
I know it stinks to see extra money and not be able to touch it, but these mistakes are usually uncovered eventually and it will come back and haunt you
It would be nice if we could keep it though, wouldnt it, LOL
