WEIRD invitation

WEIRD invitation

I got an invitation to a wedding in the mail.. and I have to admit it seems so condescending that I don't think I want to go!

First... there is no response card. Just an invitation.

On the back of the invitation the couple have a message to the effect of 'We truly believe that Christ will be present at our wedding and request that all attendees be dressed with proper modesty and behave with punctilious decorum...'

There are literally 3 paragraphs of instruction in this vein. While I appreciate their desire for a formal and reverant ceremony, I can't help but feel a little insulted that they would have the audacity to actually give instruction to their guests with regard to their behaviour and their dress! I am left with a strong distaste.

Am I crazy? Does this seem condescending to just me?

odd. couldn't have they just written modest semi-formal or something? i know i just made that up, but short and sweet might be more effective.

Re: WEIRD invitation

my mom's friend's family is VERY catholic and her daughter had a note on their invitation about attire. but it was a quick little one or two liner. i completely understand that, but a huge long instructional is a bit odd. of course, for all you know they have a member of the family who is dense and wouldn't get a nice little note so they went to the extreme to make it clear to that one person.

Re: WEIRD invitation

I don't know... the fact that it is a Nuptial Mass and that the invitation notes clearly that the high mass will be held in Latin and that they will be celebrating the 'Sacrament of Holy Matrimony' all kind of tipped me off to the fact that it is a religious ceremony.

I am not going to go. I am a little afraid that I might offend the couple with my outfit or I might accidentally breathe too loud...

Definitely the most bizarre thing I've heard in regards to an invitation.

Well i have to say my best friend got married last year and her DH belongs to a church that is catholic and one that practices in a pre vatican council sense.......so we had to wear head coverings like a traditional mantilla, a skirt no pants and be covered on top 1 inch below our collar bone........and yes it was frustrating but its their belief........i think its better that they put that on the invite rather then have people embarrased that they can't enter the church to see the ceremony......after you traveled there. jmo

That is tooo ridiculous! WoW!

Though I would have responded the same way as you did... I'd probably still go if they were friends of mine. I'm sure everyone who recieved the invitation felt the same way, and SOMEONE will comment on it... they just don't know any better and it's further evidenced by the fact that they didn't even include an RSVP card!

Good luck with that

Honestly I would go out of curiosity. I think it would be so cool to see somethign spoken in latin, and I would just try to find sunday church clothes i guess...although 3 paragraphs should give a pretty good idea of what to wear!!!

I think it is odd, however, I just think it is a bride who realizes that her way of life is much different from that of everyone she knows, and wants to make sure that her day is as perfect as she envisions....3 paragraphs a lil overboard maybe...but as we all say...it is her day!!!

They sound like born agains. I wouldn't go. I would tell them that my lack of ponctillousness has made me transend myself into a coma and will not be able to attend!

edit: What's a ponctillious? I can't believe there is a word that I have never heard of. I am so looking that up!

I am familiar with the church... I have been there. I have seen people in jeans and sneakers there. I am certain this is not the churches rule.
