So a few days ago an ex from college contacted me via facebook (like a one line 'hey how are you?' thing). So I wrote back a one liner, as to not just ignore him 'doing well, in NYC still working'. Then this morning I log on and he has written that he was thinking about what would have happened if we didn't break up, but that he sees I am engaged now!
Do guys have some secret radar that alerts them when an ex gets engaged, so they know to immediately contact her about 'old times'?

Funny that you mentioned this. I had an ex contact me last week on FB too! We had a terrible breakup too. So, if I saw him in a public place, I'd be a b*tch to him. So, he has tried to contact me in the past and I would ignore him. So, he sent me a message on FB and I said to myself this is my chance to rub it in his face that my life is going so WELL! So I did. And yes, he gave me the sob story of 'What if we never broke up?' Now I just LAUGH about it.

I think they do! My ex from High School contacted me on an old email that I used then that I check from time to time. I havent spoken to him since 2003 and all of a sudden I get this email of him apologizes for being an A S S 5 years ago.

I think so too...just went everything is going good and seems on track those 'ex's' just love to come up. and then the memories whether good or bad...it just drives you nuts because they are in your head again even though your completely content.

LOL i got something last week from the spermdonor(the name i so lovingly gave the biolgical 'father' of my daughter) from some dating site so i very nicely sent him a lil message back telling him there was not a snowballs chance in hell i would ever get back with him...... and to twist the knife told him to NEVER contact me again.....
i haven't heard from him or seen a dime for my daughter since she was 5 month old so i was kinda pissed that was in my inbox to begin with.
anyway.... just thought i'd share

YES.
My mom and her two sisters had this happen to them, but there was no Facebook, so people called over the phone and randomly showed up at their house. It is guaranteed to happen because they get upset when they realize that lost you, even though it happened years ago.

I think 'ex-bfs' have trouble dealing with their 'ex-gfs' being happy and moving on sometimes.
When I started dating FH and my ex became aware I was dating him (they casually know each other), my ex would text and call at all hours. He is the one that made our relationship not work and I cared for him very much but I moved on. Every now and then I hear from and run into him. He finally congratulated me on my engagement at a wedding we were both in the bridal party for. I think it's falttering to have someone say they always think 'what-if'. We all think that sometimes but we fall in love and move on and the past becomes just that, a past of good (and sometimes bad) memories.

I agree with the radar thing. It has always happened to me that as soon as I am happy and moving on, an ex tries to come back into my life.

that hasnt happened to me thank god! but of course happened while dating.... they never want you when you're single right?? LOL

theyd efinitely have radar...this happened to me this october...so frustrating!

Totally i think its a pact they make when they are old enough to speak. Yes we will all find old girlfriends that we screwed over or something & then beg them for forgiveness right when they get engaged! That way we can tell them how we really feel yet still not have the commitment!

I've had a few of my ex's do this to me!!
Just about a month ago, my first love got back in touch with me, now when I saw first love I was 14 and had no idea what love was lolz, but he was my little girl crush for like 4yrs..we had a little thing on and off..anyway...a month ago or so he contacts me and I tell him i'm engaged and everything and at first he seemed really happy (FH actually met him when I set my ex up with an old friend and we all chilled together) so he was sayin how he was so happy for us. Then the next day he starts telling me that he has to talk to me about how he is feeling, because he feels like its now or never and that he really wants to spend his life with me..I was like REALLY?? Then why haven't you been in it AT ALL for the past 3yrs lolz...craziness i tell ya!!

uhhhhh... the exes... i suggest you stay away... an ex did the same to me... he wanted to know 'what if we....' mind you he said he was engaged to the girl he cheated on me with.... but he still wanted to know about me... the he got all weird after I told him that our split was good for the both of us... then he started saying things like 'i am sooo happy now.' you would never have made me this happy... that that point i terminated the email account he was writing to... I just didn't want to deal with it.. and i am soooo happy now... :)
