Weirdness

Ladies, quick question. When you first started plannning and shopping for your gown, did your parents act weird? My mom did, my brother says that they are realizing that the baby is getting married.

Re: Weirdness

Not really, they were supportive and excited for us! They knew it all along that we would be getting married and I think they're happy it's happening now rather than later.

Re: Weirdness

I shopped for my dress without my mom. Just my MOH & her daughter.

My MIL saw my dress when I went for one of my fittings because she came to look for a dress for herself. My family didn't see the dress until that morning at the hall.

My mom was just very sentimental.. I am her baby girl getting married and she was sentimental many times. But very happy for us.

Re: Weirdness

my father started talking about grandchildern and my mother cried all the time because she wasn't as involved in the planning as she 'expected' to be. apparently, when her friend's children were getting married....the daughters planned with their mothers. and with us, tom and i were planning together, so we didn't need her at all!!

Let's just say that when we set a date we were asked 'Oh, so you guys are really going to do this huh?'

Re: Weirdness

My mom was also sentimental. I am the first one married and the only girl. She is in her glory with helping in the wedding planning!

Re: Weirdness

my parents didn't really act weird I mean we have been together
for 6 years but I am getting very mixed feelings from his family
Word has gotten back to me that they are not happy that we are having
a big traditional wedding. Some would rather have us do it in his
backyard and have his mom cook. That would be fine but that is
not what I want. I have been planning this wedding for a very long
time and no one is going to try to change it for me. I think
the major problem with them is that we are the first ones to have a big
elaborate affair and they think it's a big waste of money!! all his other
siblings and cousins have either had babies and just live with their partner
or just gone to the courts. I am going to have a HARD TIME LADIES
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Weirdness

not so much with the dress...but with the hall...

my parents said they were going to contribute some money to the reception...but were very secretive...and I wasn't happy since I had to know if I picked a hall without their help that I could afford it...

Re: Weirdness

My parents didn't even seem happy when I told them I was engaged. They seemed completely oblivious to the fact that I was getting married. Well, up until about a month ago, my mother would not talk about my wedding. She kept claiming it was 'too far away'. Which, yes, it's far away, but dos that mean we should act like it doesn't exist? NO, so we cleared that up. Now everyone is acted normal and some how I've started getting engagement gifts after an entire year of being engaged It's like my mother FINALLY called people to say I was getting married (which is not the truth, because everyone in my family knows). Anyway, it's been an odd experience, but thank goodness my parents are coming around.
ETA: They of course have told me now that it's just weird because I am their youngest and first to get married and it came so quickly that they had a hard time dealing with the situation. I guess they thought they'd have more time to plan a response in their heads. But we were dating for two years already and I KEPT SAYING, 'Mom, I think it's coming, I think I'm going to get engaged soon.' How much more warning could a person need?
