I just read about this concept in a book - for those of us (or maybe it's just me) that hate showers....the idea is, especially if you dont' know the sex yet, to have a get together a month or two after you give birth in lieu of a shower, when everyone now knows the sex, and they can see the baby at the same time. (From a distance of course, I'm not picturing my one or two month old child being passed around like a football!) Any thoughts on this idea?

Re: 'Welcome Baby Party'
not that i am a mom yet, but it sounds like a sweet thing. also, in the jewish religion, you don't have showers out of superstitions, so it sounds nice. but ask me in a couple of years when i am pregnant.

Re: 'Welcome Baby Party'
I think its a cute idea, and you wont have so much green and yellow stuff, you'll get gender specific gifts!
But this type of party also depends on how you feel about 'from a distance' because that may VERY WELL not be the case. You will have LOTS of people that will want to hold the baby, and you will be in the position of whether or not to tell people youd rather not everyone hold him/her or whether to wash their hands etc...
Are you also having a christening? In that case it might be a bit too much to do this and a christening so close to eachother... Why do you hate showers?
