Well thanks ladies... now you've got me thinking about themes...

I hadn't really thought about having a theme (well, besides colors, which i think will be celdon and yellow).

But other than that, nothing.

same with table names... like i know many of you are doing themes based on something you and FH really love...

Well, Kev and i are big dorks.

As i jokingly said in another thread, FH has a thing for Tom Hanks (who he oh so casually refers to as 'Tommy')

He's obessed w/ the simpsons (we could have people sitting at Springfield elementary or the power plant, but i think my mom might kill me).

We do enjoy movies... so we could do that...

And music, so we could do songs/bands... but i don't know...

every time i think of doing something kind of quirky, i get a glare from my mother that says 'don't even think about it.'

so, basically, what my long windedness is getting to is:

Do i really need a theme? Or can I just stick with color?

Definitely do not need a theme. Colors are perfect. That is the beauty of weddings; they are all different. Do what makes you happy.

I don't think you need a theme either. The only slight theme we are going with is fall, and that is really only in colors and possibly place cards if I can get them right.

yeah, i know i don't need one... but with all the theme talk i was thinking

'oh, i want one!'

sorry, i'm a wedding reject and i can't come up with anything cool on my own

debs i'm right there with you!!! i don't have a 'theme' besides red

as far as the table names go, i'm having the hardest time deciding. we're doing my street name, his street name, stony brook and that's as far as we get! i guess we're really going to sit down and discuss this matter. we need table names! grrrrrrrrrrr

I don't think you necessarily need a theme. But, I did find it easier to go with one.

I did take it way past what I thought I was. It was supposedly just for invites and colors (the whole Cinderella thing) and now I MUST purchase everything with Cinderella on it!!!!

I am with Kimberly...every wedding is different.

I agree. People are going to try to convince me to do the pics before hand. The ceramony and recption is in one place. I want to do the pictures during the ch hour. I made for this day my whole life. I want it to be like a fairytale(I know, a little cheesy.lol) I want to see fh face for the first time when I walk down the aisle.

But i don't think I have a way

gah, i've got to do wedding stuff today - maybe then I'll come up with something.

Okay, back to watching the Lizzie McGuire movie... because I'm 12

we're doing a theme - movies. only because we love watching movies, if you can't find us we're probably at the movies lol.

our eparty invites were like a movie premier pass, our wedding invites (might be) a movie poster and mailed out in tubes. on the tables we're thinking of using those boards that directers use (they yell cut, and close the board) i just forgot what they're called.

granted, my mother hates these ideas with a passion i never knew she had. but, my day my way. (thanks LP)

you defintiely don't need a theme. i think it can make things much harder. because once we thought of the theme we wanted to incorporate it everywhere, but we still want it to be classy.

altho i still think it would be funny to have the groomsmen dress as movie theater ushers. but thats a different story.

I went through the same thing, thinking about different themes, etc. I decided against it and feel so relieved! I love the idea of table names, but if I did them I'd feel pressured to do a whole theme around them. Since we've already decided on donation favors, the theme just doesn't seem to work. My advice is if you're not feeling overwhelmingly devoted to a single theme, then don't bother!

You definately do not need a theme- colors work to tie a whole wedding together in a classy way. I had this discussion with FH last night. He is refusing to do table names. He thinks its really dumb. And you know how he feels about my lighthouses.... I am beginning to think I am actually in theme overload. Other than the invites and the centerpieces, I think my theme stops there. No table names, just old-fashioned numbers.

I've been thinking the same thing about themes - I've been reading more and more about themes and how they help decide other things. But a color or even a flower can be a theme. Its annoying me b/c we don't know yet when we're getting married and I'm like I need something creative, a theme- but in the end like everyone said its whatever you want and whatever you think looks nice - it'll be amazing!

What about all the cities have visited together and their significance? I wanted to do that until I was told my FH that we will have numbers, NOT names. I had ten names already! First date, meeting my parents, our families meeting, engagement, trips to see his sister, weekend get-aways, etc.

Re: Well thanks ladies... now you've got me thinking about themes...

Orginally I was planning our date for September so I had my head the whole fall theme...leaves and such but when we got the date for August that kinda flew out the window...I stumbled upon a beautiful cake in Martha Stewarts wedding mag it was purple with moons and starts on it and it was sooo me so we decided to do stars and purple. Table names will be names of constellations and we're going to put the actual constellation on the table card. I haven't seen any invitations with stars on them that I liked so I don't think I'm going theme oriented with the invites and I didn't go that route with the STDs either. So I'm not in theme overload ...yet anyway!

i don't think you need a theme either.

HOWEVER...

if you are having urges to make things quirky and 'you' , it does not need to be played out in a theme. for example, we are going with a tuscan theme, but it will be subtle. FH is obsessed with action figures, so we are designing a cake topper with vintage toys from our childhood - wonderwoman and Indiana Jones maybe...they have nothing to do with our 'theme' but people will know it is so 'us.'

I think you can also do table names that are fun and can be an isolated theme unto themselves.

Personally, and I don't mean to offend anyone, i don't like a theme that is so 'matchy-matchy' and in your face - i like things that are more eclectic and inspired and are chosen because they actually mean something, not because they go with the theme.

Go with your gut, and have fun!

The dresses are going to be Celedon, and I think I want the flowers to be Yellows...

Thanks! I think we're going with the Mets Fan/Yankee fan cake topper (that Felicia DA used)

It's perfect for us (I'm the Yankee fan, he's the mets fan).

My mother HATES the idea... but pfft to her!
