I would first check out some photographers and DJ's then ask them both how much of a deposit is required to hold your dates. I'm sure they will be willing to work out some sort of payment plan with you.

We are poor too!!!! After making payments on the hall we have absolutely nothing to our name!! I think if you book inexpensive vendors you may be able to put a deposit on both. We booked FM entertainment for DJ and they required a $250 deposit. As for photo/video we booked Velvet studios. They required a $500 deposit with our package. So that fits in your budget as well. Call around and price places first and ask what they require as a deposit. That is what we did. It made it easier for us knowing we didnt have a lot to put down.
I figure it this way. I want certain things and in order to budget in those things I should book them first this way I know where and how much to cut back in other areas. I know I want awesome entertainment with some sort of live aspect. If I want this then maybe I should go with smaller less extravagent CPs because that is not a priority to me. You may decide I must have 2 photographers one tradition and one photojournalist to capture everything and to do this cut have 3 courses instead of 4. Just an example.
I say go with the photographer.

thanks kim that really is a good idea. but we really want to book so we know how much we are looking at since were paying. so if we can do a payment plan it would REALLY work for us. But i realy appriciate all the advice girls thanks!!
