You're getting married a few weeks after me. I don't think it's going to be THAT cold. Besides with nerves and the weight of the dress you should be fine. You could always suggest a really nice cape to go with it.

I agree with others.. it is your wedding.. but I also understand it's tough to find 'the one' and your mother disapprove.

First off, it's your wedding and you should get any dress that even makes you utter the words 'THE DRESS.' Second of all, strapless is more than appropriate at any time of year. And also, remind your mom that it was 70 degrees the first weekend of November this past year (2003).

I'm having an outdoor ceremony in October and it's hit or miss. It was a beautiful day when I went to see it October 9, 2003 and then the next weekend it was cold and rainy, you never can tell. So long as it's not raining, I'm getting married outside even if I have to freeze my butt off! lol!

At the end of the day it's your wedding and you should be happy. I'm sure if you calmly explain to your mom how much you love the dress than she will love it simply because you do. Also, take her to the store so she can see how beautiful it is and how beautiful you look in it. I'm sure it will work out for the best.

another option is to look on ebay. I've seen a lot of NWT dresses on there.

No offense, but I think it's your mom who isn't living in the real world. I think you should take her for a day of dress shopping, but start off somewhere that sells expensive dresses, like Bridal Reflections, or Kleinfeld, then end up at Davids. Not only will she love the dress on you, she'll love the price and realize it's a steal.

maybe you could go shopping separately with your mom to a different sotre, or even to david's and give her the chance to be a part of it. then if she sees you in the dress, maybe she'll fall in love with it too!

most dreses are strapless or spagehtti straps, its especailly fine if its evevning, but still ok if its day.

You're not going to be outside much anyway. You coudl get a fake fur wrap if it will make her feel better. (or borrow a real one if you now anyone with a white one)

$600 is great for a dress, but ont he high end for David's. Is your mom paying for everything? What if you pay for half the dress.

She's jsut having separation anxiety--my friend went through that it took her MONTHS to find a dress they coudl both agree on. My mom gets to come with me saturday. If it doesn't go well, other attempts & maybe even the purchase will be with a friend.

1. You have to wear the dress, not her.

2. It's beautiful!!!

3. If she thinks you can find a gown that beautiful for less than $600 - she's the one not living in the real world!!!!

My mom is stuck on what was proper 30 years ago, which translates into: no clue about today. Maybe your mom is just upset that you didn't bring her, but if you want strapless, don't bend!

it sucks that your mom's reaction took away from your happiness...my mom has the tendency to do that. She is giving me a hard time with everything....but she will get over it. If I caved in to everything, it would be HER dream wedding, not mine!
She will come around. Just be patient and wait it out. Don't worry. Give her time to let it sink in....

I am getting married in Nov and wearing strapless. I say wear what ever you love! Your mom will think you look beautiful once she sees you in it.

The dress is sooo beautiful! You do whatever you want. I am getting married the day before you and my gown is a halter top and my girls are un a halter too! Who cares if it is cold!!!
You will be sooo exicted and nervous you won't even notice, plus with our weather it may even be warm the first week in Nov.
So tell your mom thanks for the advice but OH WELL! Do want you want and enjoy your dress!!!!!!

then she tells me that i should go out to bridal reflections...

i tried 5 dresses on in my size.... there was one other that looked 'ok' but still had the hip problem(and i know she would have hated that dress)

Oh, Emily, I'm so sorry to hear your mom's reaction. You were right...our mother's were made from the same mold. I'm sorry that you're going through the exact thing that I went through with my mom about my dress. The strapless issue, the money (mine was only $950, but you would have thought I told her $9500), etc. I know exactly how you feel and you need to let her get over this in her own time, and if that's never, then it's her problem. You need to find a way to get over it for yourself so that you can be happy about your dress and your wedding. I know it's so hard when your mom is raining on your parade in such a harsh manner, but this, too, shall pass.

The dress is beautiful - I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's your wedding day and you should wear 'the dress'. $600 is such a great deal for a wedding gown - I don't know where your mom thinks she's going to find one for $350! Try to get her to go to David's with you and see you in the gown. Do you think there's something else underlying her negativity or that she really and truly dislikes the dress?

Your dress is Beautiful! (I think I tried that one on too!) If you think it is The Dress - then it IS!! And you got an awesome price! You can always get a shawl or wrap if you're concerned about being cold. Did your Mom see you 'in' your dress, or just a picture? I bet she'll feel differently when she see's the complete picture - her daughter - a beautiful bride!

it's your day and you will be wearing the dress. as far as the price, is she paying for your dress? if so, tell her to give you the 350 and you put in the difference. don't let her stress you. it is way too early for that!!!!
