Definitely! How did it go?

Re: Went on the Interview last night...anyone want an update?

Ok, I got there a few minutes (like 4) late...traffic....took me over 45 minutes!! (A little too far for my spoiled self). Then she kept me waiting another 20 minutes....she did come out and se she was involved in a 'customer issue'. Fine...

The interview went well and while it totally suits my experience and the pay is alright (definitely NOT what I was making in NY, but I was ready for that), they will not negotiate starting salary of $10.50 an hour. There is overtime come holiday rush (it's retail...obvious).

I wasn't *thrilled* per se with the environment...nice store and all....seemed very *uptight* and cold....I guess because it's a jewelry store. I don't think my rowdy self would fit in, but I'm adaptable. Benefits take effect after 60 days, there is vacation and sick time which begin accruing after 6 months and that is when you can take it.

While I *could* see myself working there, I think I'd rather be at the preschool working with kids. She said she wasn't going to schedule a 2nd interview until I called and told her it was something I wanted to pursue as she has some other interviews...blah blah blah.

I say don't waste anymore time doing something you will not be happy doing....pursue finding a school to assist / teach in!

I have to agree - it doesnt sound like you will be happy there - I think you need to be with the kiddies!!!

Shana -- from my perspective, it sounds to me that you are NOT enthused about the jewlery store at all. You listed far more 'cons' than 'pros' about the interview and what you observed.. and I think that even though the pay is 'decent' and benefits aren't bad, its going to make you SO unhappy there

I'd hate to see you going from one job you aren't happy with to another ...

I think you need to follow your heart and work with the kiddies. Its a path you really want to take, and even though the pay is not as good its going to fulfill you so much more.

As long as you and DH can swing it, then definitely go for it

Good Luck

Go for the preschool. It isnt worth it if you arent going to be happy with what you are doing.

I compeletely agree with Felicia.

Doesn't sound like the right place for you.

You seem to have such energy & a sunny personality that would probably be much more apprecaited by children& other people
that work with children.

If that is some thing you really want to explore, go for it.

You'll always be wondering,'what if', if you don't.

Is there a pre-school job on the horizon? That sounds interesting and more your style.

I agree with everyone RE: the jewelry store. My dad always says 'If you find a job you love, you'll never work a day in your life'

I had originally interviewed with this preschool but they took so long getting back to me and I was in a panic over money so I took the first offer I got....

they are now 'creating' a position for me and they will help me get certified and then I can get my own classroom when one opens up!

Oh, then, I say definitely do it!!!! It's not often easy to find a position where they're willing to a) take a chance on you and b) nurture you the way they say they will.

Good luck!

I would defintely stick with the school thing. It doesnt pay to take a job that you would be unhappy with from the beginning.

Dont worry everything will work itself out!!

I definately have to agree with Felicia here too. The whole thing about going on the interview was to see if you would really like it & be sure about your decision...now I think you are sure. Go back to the preschool & have a chat with them.
