Went to a wedding last night at De Seversky

Anyone getting married there? I had a great time and would be happy to answer questions.

The food was AMAZING - some of the best wedding food I've ever had.

The atmosphere was cool - like a big house party, really. It was VERY non-catering-hall-like, which was a nice break from the routine. And did I mention the food? Yummmmmmm.

You should TOTALLY FM The Future Mrs M. She had a bad experience with her e-party at Chateau Briand and is SO upset that she is thinking of cancelling her wedding at De Seversky b/c she feels like a big wedding might not be worth it if a catering hall can't get things right. I'm sure she'd love to hear how awesome De Seversky is!!!!

Omg!! Yay so excited to hear great things! I'm getting married there next September. The chef has won many awards and it has been said to have great food! Was there anything you would have done differently? I am so excited!!!

Anything I would have done differently? Hmmm. Well, I guess the only thing is that it was a nighttime wedding and so when we arrived at 6:00, it was too dark to see anything outside, which was a shame because I bet the outside was beautiful and I think it would have made such a gorgeous first impression.

But you're asking me to be critical so let's see... okay, one thing I would have done differently is that everything was so spread out over the different rooms, I missed the cake cutting because I was in the library when it happened and had no idea it was going on. It would have been nice to have a banquet manager - or even just a groomsman - with the responsibility of going to the library and the piano room and announcing that the cake cutting, first dance, etc. was about to happen. Because you're spread out over such a wide area - which was GREAT, don't get me wrong; it felt like a really cool house party - people were all over the place and probably missed some 'events' they would have liked to have seen.

Oh! And I'm a vegetarian, and there was no veggie option on the menu. I asked the waiter, and he said that it was no problem, the chef would make me a salad for dinner - and it ended up being just lettuce with dressing. So while everyone else was eating steak and halibut, I had a pile of lettuce! So it seems like they don't have a great 'backup plan' for veggies - it would be nice if you could insist that the cook at least have some pasta and tomato sauce on hand, which is cheap as anything and would have made me much happier.

Other than that, it was a gorgeous wedding. The ambiance was so cool!

Yay--thank you so much for the feedback! Luckily I have all the problems taken care of-guests are arriving between 3:30-4, so it will definately still be light out. I've also hired a DOC who will take care of making the announcements to make sure people don't miss any major event.
I am even more excited now--thank you!!!!

No vegetarian dish???? WOW. That's unbelievable. For a place like De Seversky not to have a grilled vegatable dinner or something ... strange! My RH has two, I think - well, one fish dish and one veggie dish.

I fell in love with the place on the website...and then I looked at the price tag!

And the no veggie option is awful! I actually convinced my RH to offer 4 options instead of 3, one being veggie. I'm a veggie and I was not about to eat grilled vegetables for my wedding! I'm very excited about my eggplant rollatini! (No offense to those who love the grilled veggies--I do too, but wanted to eat something at my wedding that I DON'T make once a week!)

I work at NYIT and have been to tons of meetings, staff retreats, etc. at DeSeversky. I hate the place....

I get sick from the food every single time I'm there....

BUT....I'm glad you had a good time!

Oh whoa, really? Sorry to hear that. I'm surprised. The brie and apple puff pastry hors d'oeuvre was like the best food I EVER ate.

Hi;
I am also getting married at the DeSeversky Center and can let you know after looking at the menu...,...they DO have vegetarian dishes. Maybe the bride did not order such dish and they probably did not prepare for such. I am sorry you had to go through that experience. I can let you know for certain that the more information regarding the guest the bride can provide to the venue she is utilizing, the better apt they will be to accommodate such. To be fair, we can't blame the venue for the oversight the bride made. They were probably not prepare for such....hence, they probably didn't have much to offer. Granted....they should probably have had something else on the side

Re: Went to a wedding last night at De Seversky

I had my wedding at deSeversky last month. They do have vegetarian options and as a bride you are to just let them know how many vegetarians to anticipate. I made sure there were 3 vegetarian dinners available. The dish that they recommend is a vegetarian napolean - a tower of various grilled vegetables; and that is if you are not doing a vegetarian option based on your selections. It's really what the couple negotiates for. I wouldn't slight them for that. The food was fantastic and will not dissappoint.
