Went to a wedding yesterday
at the Lawrence Country Club. The place itself was very beautiful, it was a small wedding (maybe 110 the most). The bride chose not to have placecards so it was a 'sit where you like' type of party. She had beautiful fall themed centerpieces (I will post pics as sonn as I get them). DH & I and his parents grabbed a table near the french doors that open onto a garden area. The food was served buffet style. Ok now here is where I think it went down hill, they had waiters passing hor d'overs, the first waitress came over to us 4 times in 10 mins pushing her potato and caviar. After that we couldnt get any waiter to come over to us. A lot of people were complaining that they couldnt flag down anyone. My DH got me a drink, the glass was FULL I put it on my table I turned around to talk to someone a bus boy came and took my drink, not an isolated occurance. When the food was finally ready, it was like a 5 hour cocktail hour.....the bride had 5 stations (fajita, kabob, carving, chinese and pasta), supposedly all you could eat. They served such tiny portions and if you asked for another slice of turkey you were greeted with a dirty look. They also had no knives, and damn if it didnt take 20 mins for me to get one! When we get back to our table (with pocketbooks and jackets hanging on the seats) there are other people sitting there ( this is why its so important to have a seating chart!!!!) I said excuse me but we were sitting here the woman said OH well we are just gonna eat and get up I was like andddddd where are WE gonna eat? Alas not the last time it happend, my poor in-laws had to play musical chairs all day.
People were going out the french doors all day to smoke and no one knew how to use the handle to get back in so we were opening the door all afternoon. Some people thought that they would hold the door open while they smoked this way they wouldnt get locked out, so everyone at my table would FREEZE.
The bride is an employee of my FIL, she a tad older (40ish) and this was her first wedding, I understand that getting all done up is'nt some peoples thing, but she looked like she was just going to a regular party. She wore a simple but very pretty dress and absolutely NO MAKEUP, it really took away from her. Even if make up isnt your thing just a little would do wonders. I understand that people do drink and get drunk at weddings, but one bridemaid was toasted before she came into the hall, at one point she literally fell onto the bar, and her hair was falling out of its 'do' she was slurring her words, generally making a fool of herself
There was never any mention of parent dances or cake cutting, it generally did not feel like we were at a wedding.
They gave out a small box of Irish chocolates and a heart shaped cookie from Cheryl and Co.
