Went to David's Bridal today...

This is my last day off before starting work again, and I woke up and decided to go to a couple places to try on dresses, even though I said I wouldn't go until the summer to look. I have been doing cardiokickboxing classes for 4 weeks now, 4-5x a week, and I am starting to feel good...so I figured I would casually look. What a mistake!!

I wanted to go alone, but my sister was home, and she said she wanted to go with me. We went to David's Bridal first, with no appointment. They were busy, and I had to fill something out to register, and then the girl told me to start looking, and if I found something, to tell somebody so I can try it on....which is fine, because I usually hate when sales girls are breathing down my neck. I found a few, and a girl working there starting yelling that I shouldn't be looking without somebody that works there with me...okay...I told her that it was fine, and I just needed to try it on. She brought in this huge slip, and uncomfortable bra to wear. My sister helped me from there. They have no mirrors in the dressing rooms, so I had to come out to show everyone sitting there. I hated all of the dressed on me, I looked like a linebacker!!! I didn't realize how heavy and uncomfortable dresses can be!! I want something light and flowy, not something that weight pounds. It is seriously a big motivator, because there is no reason for dress shopping to be this stressful.

I tried 3 dresses on, and I stopped after that. My plan was to go to Bridal Suite in Patchogue after that, but I was too depressed to keep going. Looks like I will wait now...which is fine, because that was my original plan. I just wanted to let you girls know how my mini dress-shopping experience went. H

i left the first store i went into to try dresses on in tears! i feel your pain... i think i had a really hard time seeing myself in dresses and not looking like all those models, LOL. i think we also put a lot ofpressure on ourselves to feel this amazing 'bridal' glow and to find 'the one' in terms of dresses. i never felt either way while trying on dresses. although, i did find the dress that i love, it wast a fairy tale experience.

get back on the horse! youll find your dream dress!

They're like that even when you do have an appt... definitely check out The Bridal Suite of Bay Shore. Tell whoever helps you that you want something light and not too heavy... unlike David's places like the BS of Bay Shore work with you and what you want... you'll need to make an appt. though.

Get that David's experience out of your mind because dress shopping is fun!!!

omg that really stinks...i HATE davids bridal!!!!!

don't let it get you down, they are terrible there. make an appointment, try somewhere else, and you'll find something you like better than those dresses, and hopefully you'll have a better experience w the sales people!

Thanks girls!! I think once I lose some weight I won't be as down about trying on these dresses....and you are right about not looking like the models....

I love so many dresses on the models, but when they are on me, I am like............heck no!!!

I am going to wait a while before I go again....

Hey, I feel ya on the whole weight thing . But don't let that discourage you either... most of the time when you go dress shopping, the sample sizes are like a size 10 juniors... they're all cut very small, don't let it getcha down

so sorry you had a sad experience.. i havent gone yet either.. i fear my reaction will be much like yours..

we just got to get our butts in shape girl!! hehe

Dont let this discourage you. Honestly, some dresses I tried on made me look huge and others really made me look so thin. Maybe the style of dress you are trying on isn't right for your body type. What kind of dress did you try?

I tried on 2 halter dresses, and one strapless........and it was NOT GOOD!! LOL....but most of the dresses I like are strapless, but I was talking to my mom, and if I only find strapless dresses, I might add cap sleeves or something.

I am working on getting in shape, I just love to eat!! I have been working out, I just need to stop eating!! I lost some weight, and I know it is a start, I just have so much to lose!! It can be discouraging sometimes...but I know it took me years to gain the weight, so I just have to be patient!

Also, anything with a corset back will sinch in the waiste! It's amazing... I was stunned to see what it would look like if I lost weight when I put on a corset back dress!!

Did you try on A-lines? For me those were the most flattering because they really suck in the waistline

I second that. i tried on a Maggie with a corest back and my waist looked small for the first time in years

I had got my dress at Davids in Ohio, the girl I had was awesome, very fun...but when I went with my best friend, the girl she had didn't even pay attention to her. No help, nothing. I think its a hit or miss.

They do have some beautiful dresses there.

My best friend has wider shoulders but a halter dress did her so much justice. You might want to try that if you have wider shoulders.
