This is my last day off before starting work again, and I woke up and decided to go to a couple places to try on dresses, even though I said I wouldn't go until the summer to look. I have been doing cardiokickboxing classes for 4 weeks now, 4-5x a week, and I am starting to feel good...so I figured I would casually look. What a mistake!!
I wanted to go alone, but my sister was home, and she said she wanted to go with me. We went to David's Bridal first, with no appointment. They were busy, and I had to fill something out to register, and then the girl told me to start looking, and if I found something, to tell somebody so I can try it on....which is fine, because I usually hate when sales girls are breathing down my neck. I found a few, and a girl working there starting yelling that I shouldn't be looking without somebody that works there with me...okay...I told her that it was fine, and I just needed to try it on. She brought in this huge slip, and uncomfortable bra to wear. My sister helped me from there. They have no mirrors in the dressing rooms, so I had to come out to show everyone sitting there. I hated all of the dressed on me, I looked like a linebacker!!! I didn't realize how heavy and uncomfortable dresses can be!! I want something light and flowy, not something that weight pounds. It is seriously a big motivator, because there is no reason for dress shopping to be this stressful.
I tried 3 dresses on, and I stopped after that. My plan was to go to Bridal Suite in Patchogue after that, but I was too depressed to keep going. Looks like I will wait now...which is fine, because that was my original plan. I just wanted to let you girls know how my mini dress-shopping experience went. H Hopefully next time will be better!!

Re: Went to David's Bridal today...
I wonder if you went to the same davids bridal I went to last week, I had pretty much the same experience! I felt so depressed when I left too, I didn't even try on all of the dresses because I looked like a fat pig in all of them...it was wierd because usually I feel like a princess when I'm dress shopping and i'm a size 4 and i'm okay with my body but those dresses made me feel so ugly and flabby! I think it's the way david's bridals dresses are tailored...they're not very flattering...and don't get me started on the service!

I went to David's Bridal last week, to see if I could justify spending $1000 or more on a dress when there are dresses out there that cost $300 or $400. I have to tell you, there IS a huge difference. David's dresses look very nice on some people, but it's pretty hit or miss - the materials they use are very heavy and don't 'move' very well - you're kind of stuck with the shape of the dress. If you go to another salon, you'll see the difference: the saleslady will help you into the dress (sometimes no small feat!) and hold it together with clips so you can see what it would look like on you in the right size. She'll fuss with the top and the train to get it to look just right. And when you see yourself in the mirror after all that - it's a different experience, trust me. Also, I don't know your budget but if you like lighter dresses, try finding silk, or certain types of lace. I'm getting married outdoors in June, so I required a really light dress. The dress I think I'm going to buy (going back this weekend for a second opinion!) is by Paloma Blanca, and it's silk and so light and comfy. Please don't be discouraged - and whatever your budget, go to a nice salon where they treat you like a queen so you can have that experience at least once - it's part of the fun of being a bride!

Re: Went to David's Bridal today...
Just like it has been said - david's bridal dresses ARE SUPER HEAVY!!! I had on two lace dresses and compared to the other ones i tried on i looked 20lbs heavier if not more in the davids bridal dress and on top of that i couldn't move in it.
I would go to another place just to check. NO promises that the samples will fit on you completely. that is my problem but you can squeeze in them and just have the back clipped.

Re: Went to David's Bridal today...
Thanks for all of your responses and support...
I am feeling discouraged, but I will not give up!! I will go to a better place next time...I just figured I would see what they had since I have heard so much about them, and I know their prices are affordable. I would like to stay under 1k for my dress....but I am sure I will be able to do it. I want a quality dress, and I am looking for something lighter.
I really appreciate what you girls have had to say!!
