Went to DJ but was a little disappointed....please give advice

I have a package that includes a DJ for the cocktail hour and reception, BUT it dioes not include an MC. I have been told that if the DJ is any good they can do both. When I met with DJ he basically told me that the DJ is the DJ and that is what he specializes in. If I want announcements made andthings like that I would be asking a lot of him because that is not his area of expertise???? Are they just trying to get me to spend the extra $500 for an MC or what????

I think they are just trying to sell you the MC. The DJ I met with told me there is no real need for an MC unless you have a crowd full of wallflowers. He said he is perfectly capable of making announcements. The big difference is that he makes them from behind the booth instead of in front of it.

Yeah a DJ is supposed to MC also not just stand there and play music. Every wedding DJ I have every seen MC's for the wedding or any event for that matter. Yes they are trying to rip you off. Is there any way to choose another DJ?

At every sinmgle wedding I have been too, the DJ has done both. I agree, they are trying to sell you the MC.

Try to find someone who had this same DJ and see what they did. Then you can go back to him and say ' Gee, I spoke to so-and-so and you did their wedding. They told me you .....'

DOLL--- DOnt get the MC if you dont want it, I think with all the people you are gonna have at your wedding there is gonna be no need for one.
I will just have to get on the dance floor and make everyone follow me...LOL

don;t get all stressed out. my dj does both. did your dj come with the hal is he there house dj? if so i think you need to speak to the person who booked your wedding and tell them since when does a dj just do spining music at a wedding and no introducing and so forth. if your unhappy see if they can take the dj off give you the money for that off in something esle and go get your own dj. good luck cheer up smile

It sounds like they might be trying to add on the emcee. However, if I was in your shoes it would get me nervous and either I would pay for the MC or change DJ companies to find one who you know does both. The reason being is because lets say the day of the DJ doesnt make announcements or Emcee's, you really cant dispute it because you were told he doesnt do that. Do what is going to make you secure and feel comfortable.

Music was an important element for me and I have both DJ and emcee. Plus I love my emcee, i was really booking him. I wanted my DJ to just focus on the music and didnt want him speaking from behind the table.

I agree with Darlene - my DJ did this as well and we decided against it. My family loves dancing, so I know we won't need the MC to liven the crowd up.

Most companies will include DJ and MC in packages. However it is more expensive. DJ's are usually just DJ's, I mean most of them can do both, but they get hired for one particular feat and that is what they do.

We're not having the MC....like eveyone said, the DJ can make announcements and stuff. We chose not to get an MC because I dont want him going around to the tables and pulling people up to dance ya know? If they wanna dance they will :)
Also....with all the people invited...they are nutcases...who needs a DJ

Every wedding I've been to the DJ does the MC job, and he has done fine. I've never seen a DJ who doesn't make announcements. What company is it? I'd post a question here looking for other brides who used them to get their feedback. It definitely sounds like they're trying to upsell you on the emcee. Good luck!

We used Frank from FM Entertainment, he is a vendor on this site. He was the DJ and he made all of our announcements and did an awesome job. We did not hire a separate MC.

My DJ actually talked me out of getting the MC. He told me that as long as you know for a fact that your family will dance without having someone getting them up, then their is no need for an MC.

I don't think that you need to get an MC if you don't want to. The DJ will make all necessary announcements (your entrance into the room, and special dances with FH and parents)

Here's the story on DJs (I work for one):

There are 2 types of 'DJs'.

First, there's the DJ who ONLY plays music. No, they are not supposed to MC, because they are just DJs, nothing else. They push buttons and mix music....that's it.

Then there's the DJ/MC, the person who CAN do both the music and make minor announcements and intros.

Then there's the MC, who only makes announcements, motivates, and is the visible person on the dancefloor.

A DJ/MC can do a wedding by himself, not a DJ though. If you are having a wedding where you don't want or need a lot of motivation or announcements, get the DJ/MC. If you want someone to really be a main MC, hire the extra guy.

I will say that it sounds like they are trying to add an MC to your wedding to make some extra $$ though. They probably told you it could be done with 1 person, and now they think you need 2....

Even if this DJ is just a DJ and doesn't like to/doesn't typically 'MC' as well, it does still sound like they're trying to upsale the MC services....I mean, if you didn't want to pay for one, they should've scheduled a DJ who does MC.

Maybe try somewhere else....we are using energy entertainment as rec. by our hall....the package includes 2 guys automatically...one to DJ and one to MC....kind of like flower packages that include a throw-away even if you don't want it.

I'm not saying this place is 'ripping' you off by an stretch, but if you wanted to pay for one person, they should've tried to book your wedding with someone who does do both so you wouldn't feel the need to spend the extra $$$ that you are trying to save.

good luck...i do advise you to look around to be sure.

I think they are trying to sell the MC...my package didn't come with one either but he would have still made announcements....we did decide to upgrade anyway.....
