Went to Douglaston Manor tasting

Original post by jenandivan

Ok, I'm pretty smashed, but I think I can do this...
The entire bottle of wine by myself... the food was... eh.

Tuscan platter (antipasto) was generic. I think I can do it by myself. I hate mushrooms, roasted peppers and prosciutto. The mozzarella and salami and roasted eggplant were good. He loves this stuff, so he loved it.

The penne a la vodka was good. Not a heavy sauce. Very tomato-y and spicy, and I think it would be good for an appetizer. And the pasta was a perfect al dente. Concensus was a yes.

Chateau Briand was incredible. Cooked perfectly. Definitely on our menu. Chicken Francaise was awful. Drunk, I could make a better one. We both agreed it won't be the chicken dish. He tried the salmon (I'm allergic) and he thought it was ok. He's not a salmon fan, but he would choose it because a lot of people like salmon.

We didn't get to try cake, as it's a separate tasting. But they did bring us coffee and cookies. They were good.

So far, he would book this place. I want to defer to him, since he wants this party. We have one more tour at another venue on the 23rd, and I'll wait until then.
It was a good night, and we had a good time. But the food was... eh.

We'll see what the Riviera shows us.

I'd consider Larkfield Manor, but it's 'too far out east' for FH's liking. He wants to keep it to Queens/Western Nassau. Yet we're going to the Riviera in Massapequa which is clearly Eastern Nassau. I'm an Eastern LI girl, and don't see the issue with the distance. He clearly does.

I say go wherever we get the most for our money. He cares about proximity to our home in Queens.

we did have to sign at our hall but were able to cancel within 30 days i think ? that allowed us to try the food. but everyone RAVES about larkfield's foods. that's all anyone says when we tell them we are booked there- 'OMG The food is soooo goood'

Good point...Many do Contract Contingent to tasting...so if you don't like the food you cancel the contract!

I completely agree that food is important but if I'm being honest, I don't remember the food at a majority of the weddings I've been to except one (Tosca Marquee in the Bronx- best food ever!). Is that bad? Clearly the bar is also very important lol :)

Call the Riviera and ask when their next showcase is. I went in February, it was free for the bride and groom and $10 if you bring anyone else. They had a whole cocktail hour set up with carving stations and all. The food was great at the Riviera.

I'm a Riviera bride!! It was free for the showcase and free tastings. We did the appetizers and are going to do dinners soon! I'm glad you liked the food :) hopefully my guests will feel the same!

Unfortunately they don't have another showcase until Fall because now is there busy reason but if anyone needs info on them I have a ton, just FM me, we're booked for next August.
