We went to the church, It is very pretty and the pastor is very nice. The only problem is that the latest time that they offer is 3pm. The reception starts at 6pm. We didn't complain about it, after all we were refered by someone else. So on the way home we discussed in the car that by the time the service would be over it would be 4, and when everyone mingled and hugged and kissed it would be about 415-430. Then the guests would drive to the hall it will be almost 5. Our problem is that CH starts at 6. The hall says the earliest is 530 maybe they will be able to do something. But my problem is, when we got to the FIL all of a sudden FH is going to say, well maybe we can look for another church. WTF??????? He didn't say that before. He knows exactly how long it took us to find one in the first place. I told him that if he wants to then that's on him. I didn't like the way he flipped the script as soon as he got infront of his parents. HE is such a MOMMA'S BOY. Should I change the church,or is there something I can do to bridge the gap?

Keep the Church. Most churches have a saturday evening mass, so you are not going to get a much later time, unless you switched denominations.
I went to awedding this summer where we didn't much time between but enought to go back to the hotel, and I really could have used more to fix my hair , because it was melting in the heat, and I rushed it on the way to the church!

Well, if there is a wedding before yours, don't plan on it starting exactly at 3pm. If it is just a ceremony, it should last 45 mins to 1 hour, so that can take you anywhere from 4pm to 4:30pm. Kissing and hugging - probably take longer than 15 minutes. If there's no other ceremonies after yours, you can have a receiving line which will take a half hour. So that will be anywhere from 4:30 to 5pm. I wouldn't worry about the hour in between. Your guests probably have been to other weddings where there's a gap and I'm sure they can find a way to occupy their time for 1 hour or so.
I usually go to a CVS or card store at that point : -)

As everyone else has said, that is a normal time gap. Anything closer and you risk being pressed for time in one area or another. But I would definitely NOT plan on going to the church late - my girlfriend arrived at her church half an hour late for a variety of reasons and instead of running late, the priest cut parts of the mass out to make it end on time.

just make sure your invitation states what time the reception starts.
its not the ideal situation, imo, but your guests will be fine.

I am in the exact situation. My church has a 2:00 wedding So I had to book it at 3:30...My CH started at 5:30 but I changed it to 6:00. We cut it doun by nothaving a receiving line after church and to only have a ceremony not a full mass...Hopefully We will have enough time. We are cutting it close though...But I would never change that church...Its where I received all my sacraments and went to school

Thanks ladies for all your words of encouragement. I am staying with the church and if FH and FIL's don't like it then TOO DAMN BAD! I think it is a beautiful church and the fact that my aunt helped me find it, I will not embarass her by asking for a new church because the time doesn't suit us.
