Were any of you a Pregnant BM or...

...did any of you have pregnant BMs? If so, how did you/they handle shopping for a BM dress?

My sister will have her baby in early May - 4 months before my wedding. She is unsure about when to start looking for BM dresses (my other BMs will be ordering some time between Nov & early Feb) and when she does, how does she order? Should she order her current size or should she order a few sizes bigger?

Thanks!

I would base the size of your sister's dress on her size prepregnancy and how she's doing now through her pregnancy.. I' have friends that were always thinner so they lost the baby weight right away and I have friends that still have their baby weight after 2-3 years. If your sister is the first type than go with her size or a size above. Def. pick a dress with an a-line cut, it's the most flattering style for all sizes

My MOH was 6 mos prego at my wedding.

She ordered 2 mos before (that was pushing it but she didn't know how much weight she's gain).

We got a dress by Jim Hjelm...fit her perfect, it's a maternity dress.

One of my BM will be 7 months pregnant at my wedding....I''m guessing she should order in Jan or maybe right before X-mas and get a maternity dress. I've never handled it before, so I don't really know what to do.

Thanks!

Donna - my sister is on the thin side (though she argues otherwise!) and she plans on breastfeeding so I don't think she'll have a problem losing the weight. I had suggested waiting to order the dress until after she has the baby, but she's nervous. I also suggested buying the dress in an 8 (she's a 4) and she could always have it taken in.

I think a maternity dress would be too big for her since she will have had the baby 4 mos before my wedding...no?

My BMs might all wind up wearing different dresses - all in black - but all the choices I gave them (probably 20 too many! LOL) are A-lines. I think that is the most universally flattering cut.

My SIL was 5 months pregnant when we went for dresses but she had the baby 5 months before the wedding so she just ordered a size bigger than she was at the time she was pregnant. She wasn't too big to begin with so the dress only had to betaken in a bit.

I think your plan of buying an 8 makes sense. This way if she does have the extra on top from BFing, she's covered and I think it's always easier to work on a dress when it's too big, rather than too small.

funny thing happened..we were all having the conversation how there is always one pregnant bm at Bridal Reflections. 2 friends just had babies (one in march and the other in may) so I figure they are safe. No one else is married, one is 19, 21, and 17 and other friends not married. Well needless to say I get a phone call the next day from the BM that just had the baby in March..tells me she is pregnant. If we didn't have the conversation she would never have known for at least a month. Thank goodness we didn't order the dresses yet. She ended up getting a size 16 instead of an 8. Wedding is in December and she will be 7 months pregnant.

One of my BM is pregnant but is due in April and my wedding is not until the following November. So she probably will measure herself now and then maybe order a size above that and then get it taken in if necessary--
