We're using FI's stupid cousin as our lawyer and he always waits to the last minute to call us back with info, so as a result we'd don't know all the details for the certified checks that we have to get TODAY. I'm so frustrated!!!!
I'll never use family for something like this again!

We are closing tomorrow too!!!! DOn't worry my lawyer just called to tell me what checks I would need as well. This whole process is soooo frustrating. Can't wait till it is over!

It's pretty typical (in NY) not to know the amount for the checks until the very last minute - but alot of that has to do with the bank you are using, not just the lawyers.
We were lucky in that our bank is out of state, and very on top of the whole process. We knew our amounts about 2 weeks prior to the closing.
Good luck tomorrow! It's scary, but so exciting at the same time!!!

Take a breath - friends of ours were late to their closing b/c they only got the check amounts that morning.

We got our check amounts 2 HOURS before closing time! and our mortgage rate lock expired that day!! We didn't even know for sure we were closing until we got the call for the check amount. Talk about anxiety! But everything worked out ok! good luck with everything. It's such an exciting time!!
