Were you disappointed/surprised by how many people came to your wedding?
We have probably 65-70% OOT guests, but many of them talked about making the trip out to LI for our wedding. This past week we have gotten quite a few responses declining of people we thought were coming (including FH's aunt who had agreed to be our DOC ) and I'm getting a little disappointed. We thought we'd have about 225 guests and we're looking more like 200 at this point. I feel really bad for FH because it's a lot of his people. Has this happened to anyone else?

We were disappointed in DHs side-my side and our friends were there-his side decided LI was too far from CT and that it wasnt worth their time..

We were disappointed - hardly anyone from DHs family came - they were all OOT and I guess no one wanted to make the trip. He was really hurt by it, I felt bad for him.

We had a bunch of OOT's on DH's side. Florida, Georgia, up up up upstate NY, Washington, etc. Our wedding was also the Saturday of the last week of school. We had a boat load of teachers on DH's side that couldn't come because of the timing, or because of how far away they all were from LI.
In the end, I started to get happy when someone declined. But it was a matter of being able to afford the open bar or not, so the less people, the more likely we could have a full on open bar.
The people we really, really wanted to be there, were there. That's all that matters. Think of all the people that ARE coming.

Re: Were you disappointed/surprised by how many people came to your wedding?
I've been surprised at some of the yesses we've gotten, we're still waiting for a lot of responses overall though. A lot of my OOT family who I haven't seen in years is coming (and responded really quickly which surprised me even more).
I'm disappointed because my grandfather says he isn't coming. He's 93 and very stubborn. He doesn't have to travel far and my aunts are going to get him a wheelchair so he won't get as tired. He told my mom he's afraid he'll fall in the bathroom. I'm more afraid of him being home alone all day than at a wedding with the rest of the family because he does fall occasionally and he tends to do stupid things when left unattended (which usually cause the falls - like climbing on a ladder or moving the sprinkler). I think it upsets my mom too. Her other siblings are working on him (they are a bit more outspoken than she is).

I was disappointed, I had a few no's that were real shockers. We had a perfect number of people there but as time drew near I just wanted everyone to attend.

I had a huge turnout from my family (some even flew in from the Caribbean!) but very few from DH side showed up. A whole table cancelled just a few days before the wedding and there were 4 no-shows the day of. I felt really bad for him, esp. since my dad insisted on doing a family picture for my fam and it was like 60 people strong.

Yeah...I was a little...we invited, 200, expected about 160 considering OOT and only ended up w/ 140....I was mostly upset for DH because he had a grand total of 20 ppl there on his side...and for the people we didn't invite because MIL HAD to invite a bunch of random friends and stuff that didn't even show up...and then there were a few really personal upsets (like one of my best friends and DH's dad who both gave pretty crappy excuses as to why they couldn't come) but in the end it was the people that DID come that made our day wonderful...don't focus too much on anythng but that

I am actually surprised by how many people are coming. We have about 90 total now and I was swearing up and down we'd have issues making our 75 minimum.

Re: Were you disappointed/surprised by how many people came to your wedding?
my rsvp deadline was yesterday and we were very surprised by how many 'no's' we got. fh and i are the couple that always do the right thing and take off for peoples weddings and travel, etc...and we are shocked by some responses...but i guess you just have to understand that people have their reasons...
we are ending up with a smaller wedding than we thought, but i'm sure the day of, it won't even matter!

We invited 275, Only about 200 showed. Lots of people were on vacation- 2 no-shows with no excuse & no explanation, or call or gift.

We had a lot of people that I thought were coming say no. We actually had to send out 3 sets of invitations because we were afraid we wouldn't make our minimum. I was disappointed in some people because I wanted them to be there. Although it's really no consolation, it might save you some money

Re: Were you disappointed/surprised by how many people came to your wedding?
I was surprised at who said no and I was also surprised at some people who said yes. But I wound up getting the exact amount of people at my wedding that I wanted, so in the end I was extremely happy.
Re: Were you disappointed/surprised by how many people came to your wedding?
I was very surprised by a couple of no's....good friends who said 'they wouldn't miss it for the world' and just respond with a no and no explaination etc. We invited 310 and ended up with 200, which turned out perfect anyway!

Re: Were you disappointed/surprised by how many people came to your wedding?
We pretty much expected most of the 'no's' that we got and are not all that disappointed. I think it really shows you what people's priorities are. We invited about 220 and will have 160.
Although FH friend from work just told us this weekend that she will not be coming...
She mixed up the dates (even though she got a save the date 9 months ago and an invitation 2 months ago) and planned a trip with her friend to Montauk to go to a dog friendly hotel to spend the weekend. THIS is her reason for not coming. Such bullsh*t. I think I was more pissed than FH was and it was his friend!!!

I did not get too many responses that I was suprised by. I pretty much knew who would respond no and I ended up with the exact number I had hoped for

Re: Were you disappointed/surprised by how many people came to your wedding?
We got married in the dead of winter. We invited 250 people. We expected 200. We had 159. Surprisingly, most of the 'no's' were local - NY/NJ area. We did have people coming from California, Texas, North Carolina, Florida and Illinois. If people want to come, they will come.

Re: Were you disappointed/surprised by how many people came to your wedding?
Same here - my husband is from Texas and only his immediate family came up for the wedding - we def anticipated more like you said they all spoke about making the trip. Not sure where your OOT are from but my DH family are from texas and teh cost of attending a NY wedding was just not something they could afford. I was even more annoyed with the people that NEVER RSVP's!
I anticipated 150 and had about 120
BUT on the good side - the less people there the less people you HAVE to spend time talking to and more time to PARTY> I LOVED that my wedding was so small I really enjoyed it :)
