Just wondering, in ALL honesty, how many of you were ACTUALLY surprised by your proposal?
We were dating for 6 years so I knew it was coming soon... I guessed it within a window of about 2 months. We were taking a cruise in January and I was POSITIVE that was when it was happening... FH knew I thought that so he surprised me and did it on my birthday in November . I soooo wasn't expecting it that night... I actually drove him nuts b/c he had the whole thing set up by his friend at our apartment while we were out to dinner... his friend poured the champagne and lit the candles and left, then, when we were almost home, I told FH I wanted to go food shopping . He tried to talk me out of it but couldn't... so the candles were almost done and the champagne was warm by the time we got there
Also I always see pics and videos of girls shaking and crying... I always thought I'd do that but I didn't. I wonder if I'm the same things going to happen to me at the wedding??

Not me....I knew exactly when it was going to happen (not where or how though). We had the stone and I had been intimately involved in having it set.

Re: Were you surprised?
FH and I have been together for like 5 plus years at that point and I knew it was coming, esp. since we had gone to look at rings together. My roomies all expected it to happen on valentine's day or my birthday (March), but when both passed and it didn't happen, I assumed it would happen when we went on our trip to Barcelona (May). So when he actually did propose I was really surprised.

Re: Were you surprised?
i didnt cry either!
i was def surprised though - i did suspect he was ring shopping b/c we talked about getting engaged alot - we also talked a lot about rings & diamonds and we had this ongoing joke - id always try and guess when it would happen and he would just say, im saving, im saving .....we were already living together so i had an idea when he would be out looking for a diamond - i knew he contacted some jewelers because im a spy and he is a really bad liar but like i said, when you live together and you have serious conversations about getting married you obviously know its going to happen....
he did totally surprise me of when/how he did it and of course the actual ring was a total surprise too....
July 3rd he tricked me into thinking he was at work all day - but he was really at home preparing for the proposal - he put a sign on our dog that said Mommy and on the inside it said he had to ask me a question - he got lots of sunflowers (my fav) and he set up two video cameras....when i got home from work i was confused b/c the house was immaculate (i planned on cleaning the entire apartment b/c my mom, sister and grandma were coming from florida the next day, July 4th, to visit and my mom and sis would be staying with us) so of course i confused that the house was really clean - then i saw our dog was jingling and had this sign around her neck....i called FH's name but he didnt answer - then i felt really weird, it crossed my mind that it was happening, but i wasnt convinced and i certainly didnt expect him to be standing in the kitchen......he was standing there with this huge smile - and i started laughing and i was like what the hell are you doing? his hands were behind his back - he laughed and then i saw him put out his hand with the ring box and he got down on one knee and said will you marry me.....i just hugged for like 5 minutes - i didnt even say anything i had a really strange reaction - i guess i was expecting it to happen but at the same time i was completely shocked and surprised....when i saw the ring i almost fainted - i was afraid to put it on b/c it was bigger than i expected and i almost wanted to kill him b/c i could only imagine how much he spent on it - i actually sat down on the kitchen floor and had to compose myself after i saw it - and yes thats all on video
so yes he did surprise me and it was great! and our dog was involved which was really sweet!

I WISH ours was on video!! No pics of the actual proposal either.. but he had a cute set up so I have pics of that.
I guess ours was similar... we were living together but I had no idea he was even looking yet... he had gotten my ring size, but he did it in a tricky way! He just measured with a tape measure, then told me that when he tried to match those measurements online to find a size they didn't make any sense, so we'd have to go to a jeweler and get sized at one point... since we hadn't done that yet, I assumed he couldn't propose yet
So yea, the ring and date and way of proposing were a surprise
And I expect to bawl at the wedding... I hope!!

Re: Were you surprised?
FH and I did things differently. I went with him to pick out my diamond and setting. This was in October. FH then said you will get it around January because I can't afford it. (I knew it was BS) So, we went to Myrtle Beach the last week of October and I seriously had NO clue. I actually got hammered on the plane and was like 'so, are you proposing to me on vacation?' He was like 'NO, leave me alone. You know I can't do it right now.' So, I believed him. Then on November 3rd, he popped the question. Well, he really didn't ask. He just had me look at this waterfall and then when I turned around, there he was holding the box open. His parents took the picture of us getting engaged. I am so happy to have a picture of the proposal. The picture is in my album.

Re: Were you surprised?
I wasn't surprised, but after 8 years, when he fianlly did it I was surprised. I knew he had been looking (for at least 2 years), and he told my dad he was lookign but wanted to pay for it all at once which was an issue. But after so long, it was a huge surprise and such a relief (that I wasn't just stupidly being with him), I did cry and couldn't answer. He almost yelled 'pscyh' and ran away :) He did it on my birthday (which he never would have done) because he picked up the ring that day and couldn't wait.

Re: Were you surprised?
I was actually pretty surprised. Johnny and I had been dating for almost 5 years (this Jan. it was 5 years). It was Christmas Eve and we were going to his aunt's house to celebrate with the entire family. We had to be there at 4pm and of course I was running late. I heard him pacing downstairs, he gets antsy, especially because his big Italian family is offended if you're late! I was totally not expecting it that day. I came running down the stairs and I saw under the tree there was a big Build-a-Bear box under the tree that wasn't there before. I said, 'aww how sweet, no one has ever got me a build a bear'. He told me to open it and of course I knew we were in a rush, so I said I'd open it in the morning, but he insisted. The bear was dressed as a cheerleader...and let me explain.
We met in college when one of my teammates begged him to join the cheerleading squad. He was a big muscley guy and we needed some muscle to toss us for our stunts. He finally obliged after seeing 9 other guys joining a squad with 15 beautiful girls...how could he resist. We were very good friends for 2 years before we ever started dating. We did everything together, and when you're on a cheerleading team, you can't help it. We competed once a month and had to be in the gym for workouts three times a week, not to mention the 3-5 nights a week practices and of course our basketball games. We were ALWAYS together. After crying to eachother about our awful relationships, we decided to give our own relationship a try and have been together ever since.
So back to my story....the bear was dressed as a cheerleader, which he did himself at build a bear. He told me to squeeze it and he recorded on a box inside. It said, 'Amanda Elizabeth Bonilla, will you marry me?' And there he was on one knee with the ring....it was soooooo adorable!!! I didn't cry but I was practically hyperventilating!! We just started hugging, and of course it was ok that we were late...everyone knew what was going on!!
And the sweetest thing of all...Johnny proposed to me the same day his dad proposed to his mom...with the same diamond, that he set in the setting I picked out. I had no idea he was going to do that. He said it was very sentimental when his dad offered it to him and had to take it, but wants me to have my own diamond in a few years. Larkfield Manor is also the same place his parents got married 27 years ago. I'd be honored to have a realtionship as strong as theirs...and I love my FMIL, so I feel very lucky!!

Re: Were you surprised?
I knew it was coming but I didn't know exactly when. He did surprise me because he did it on just one of our regular days. We hadn't gone anywhere special for dinner and when we got back to my apt. he proposed. It was a very intimate and private proposal just how we both wanted it to be.
I thought I was going to be a big ball of tears but I didn't cry. I thought I was abnormal for not crying, but I was just too happy. I felt like a little girl again....just overjoyed.

Re: Were you surprised?
I was in complete shock with FH proposed. We've only been together for 2-1/2 years. And that was the last place on earth that I would expect a proposal. Please read my proposal story in my album if you want to know.

Re: Were you surprised?
sort of but not really. i was on to him, and he found out, so he lied to me and said he was going to do it but couldn't get things ready in time for our vacation (when he proposed). my gut still said he'd do it, but i was a little surprised.

Re: Were you surprised?
Like most girls, I was suprised but not. I knew it was coming. I knew my ring was in our apt but i couldn't find it... lol... (I had to try). We were having a tree trimming party at the apt. I love decorating the Christmas tree so this party has become kind of like an annual thing. He helped me clean and cook and we were having a good time. He wasn't expecting my friend to leave early so he jumped when they said they were leaving. However, he managed to get everyone into the room with the tree (coats and all) and said something like 'I am happy that everyone is here. I have something important to say' and i can't remember the rest. My Israeli friends all knew what was up cause he told them in Hebrew... i had no clue... At that point he proposed. I have pics in my album since his friends knew what was coming....
I kept hinting that I wanted it before Christmas and I think I even said are you going to propose at my party... and he said no....
He made sure to propose with my friends and family were around (my mom, dad, and bro). They even had flowers waiting for me...

I picked the ring about 6 weeks prior, but I was still shocked! I had thought it out and was certain it was going to be a different day

Re: Were you surprised?
It was a total shock for me!!! We had been talking about it and even planned a day to go and look at rings in the city. Anyway anytime we talked about getting engaged, he always said that by June we would be engaged. So in my mind it was going to be around June. Anyway for Christmas I had asked him for a black and white diamond ring (not an engagement ring) because it would match the set that I was getting. He told me that he had a surprise gift for me. On Christmas Eve (really Christmas Day) he told me that I should go to the tree to look for my surprise gift...It was in an ornament that had the words Will you marry me on it. I couldnt believe what it was saying...I told him that he was joking and I even told him that the ring was fake when I saw it. I was totally taken by surprise and it was wonderful...I wouldnt have wanted it any other way!

He actually made me wait an entire day there b/che did have some suprises planned- like he sent me for a massage, mani/pedi and he decorated the room wih roses everywhere while I was away.
