In doing some research on a financial project I'm working on at work, I've learned that both the City and the State of NEW YORK, have pledged $600 million dollars for the construction of this damn stadium!!! The money is to come from their operating budget!!! And the city COULDN'T find all this money when they closed those firehouses!!!??????

I work in a city middle school with an average class size of 35-36. We need to build schools, not stadiums.

Don - I too am a Jet fan, HUGE Jet fan and I'm not thrilled over the whole west side stadium thing. For one, traffic getting to the stadium in NJ is awful - couldn't imagine what it would be like having to go thru NYC. Also, I think more people would rather take the railroad, etc. to get to the stadium cutting down on tailgating which is a huge part of the fun. Your take?

I agree with the girls - the schools and teachers need the money. If the Jets want a stadium so bad go to the east end of LI and let Mr. Johnson the owner pay for it.

Well i am watching a news report on it and I guess it is a done deal...

I AM HATIN BLOOMBERG TOO!

The reason why they are considering building a 1.2billion stadium and not opening firehouses and giving teachers and cops payraises is simple.

The stadium is considered a money maker... a capital improvement.

Schools, Fire Houses, Teachers, Cops, etc... they are an EXPENSE. The city makes no money from these people. They lose money.

Granted its not the most moral thing in the world (my dad is a retired cop). But financially the stadium is the right move because of the revenue it will generate. That 600mil will be paid off in no time when the money comes back to the city.


And Bloomberg surprisingly has done a good job. He had to make a lot of TOUGH decisions... and he probably won't get re-elected because of it.

But he gets my vote next year... just on the smoking ban in bars/restaurants alone. Pataki too... since he was a big supporter of it as well (state-wide).

oh i agree, tailgating is half the fun, BUT we need to have our own stadium -- tired of playing at a venue named for another team
