Can anyone tell me truthfully if Westbury Manor is good? I'd like to know about the food, service, everything. Obviously people that got married there loved it so I am trying to get unbiased opinions

Re: Westbury Manor?
I booked my wedding there for August '09. It is the only place I looked. They are awesome. The service is wonderful, the food is great and the gardens are beautiful. If you would like to taste the food they have a restaurant, The Polo Lounge, the lunch menu is very reasonable.

Obv I'm biased since I'll be getting married there, but WM was the very last place we looked and we fell in love then and there! The menu was much more eclectic than we had seen at others, and the menu was our biggest deciding factor. The grounds are beautiful and the people are super friendly and helpful. If you go to check them out, they'll give you a $25 gift cert to try out the food, and if/when you book another $100 gift cert to use whenever or for your 1-yr anniversary dinner. We have eaten there and the food was great! Also, we know a plethora of people that attended weddings there over the past year and said it was phenomenal HTH

I just got married there it was amazing the food was great my guest loved the food they are still talking about it. My only problem is the run around they give you before the wedding I had a problem with them when you go there make sure only 1 manager you deal with not anyone else the person I booked with decided to cut down his hours to sat. and sun. and I was stuck with the other idiots there to get things done.

Ask for Felicia as a Banquet Manager she is the head of all of them! I havent had my wedding there but anyone I tell that thats where my wedding is has nothing but rave reviews about the grounds, the food, and the liquor. They have been a pleasure to deal with so far!

Re: Westbury Manor?
well, i am not getting married there. I have been to an engagement party back in April. And it was great! the food was great! i loved the gardens!
we probably would have chosen WM, but we had a problem with the minimums. we have to many people for the small room and to little for the big room. things happen for a reason though...

I am not getting married there but I recently attended a wedding there and I loved it. The ceremony and CH were outside and the grounds are beautiful. The food was very good and it is beautiful inside as well. Good luck!

Re: Westbury Manor?
we were having a small wedding and wanted to guarantee only 60 people so we were limited on venues. we checked about 7 or 8 and came down to WM (upstairs) or Larkfield Manor.
we wnet on a Sat to do 1 more look at both. At WM we told them we were interested and could they do a little better on price - - they wouldn't budge; well, any extras on dessert - - no. so we said we were going to check LM and then decide . . thought maybe hearing this might get something . . . nope.
so off we went to LM. they offer so so much food at the CH that we asked could we eliminate a bit to lower the price. the BM said, oh that would be a shame to do - - let me talk to owner to see if we can do better. they couldn't lower price (but on 60 people I can understand that) but they doid ask, what can we do to have you pick us for your wedding? they added viennesse pastry trays and chocolate fountain. so we chose them and are not sorry at all.
the people are so nice and accomodating - - much more than the BM we dealt with at WM. whenever we went to LM with payments etc the owner would always say ' whatever you want just ask us'. we did ask for a few things extra - - not a lot but they never gave us a hard time; they always agreed. and threw in other things too. so you may want to check LK before you decide.
WM was pretty but I also wondered with multi weddings and the resaurant how good would the service be. but other than upfront dealings with the bm can't say anything negative but wonder how easy they would be to make changes. as I say LM was so so easy and pleasant to deal with. everything was perfect food was so delicious too. hth

Re: Westbury Manor?
I looked at Westbury Manor, but in the end chose not to go with them.
I've heard great things about the place and the grounds seem lovely, but I was a bit turned off by the BM I dealt with. On top of that, I wanted someplace that would hold only 1 affair at a time and didn't like the cramped entry-way (or at least what I thought was cramped). In addition, after talking to several people I found their prices to be too disparate--there were big differences in price ranges and that didn't sit well with me and they weren't always willing to negotiate.

I booked there, so I may be biased, but I love it. If you're wondering about the food - it might help to go eat at their restaurant - it is absolutely amazing. And while you are there you can take a walk around the grounds. Felicia is my BM and she is AMAZING!!!!!

Re: Westbury Manor?
Just another thing about the negotiating... We are dealing with Harrison (who we love! so sweet!) and he was willing to work with us regarding our minimum guaranteed. We're having a small wedding, likely only to have about 80 ppl, so we wanted a low min, which they granted. Also, he added in a few items to the CH that I was happy about! So, I guess it is who you deal with. I hear that Felicia is great So far with us they have been very accomodating, and the price we were quoted pp with that amount of food on the menu, was awesome compared to others.

Re: Westbury Manor?
I wanted to get married there, but the was that we needed the bigger room and they would negotiate the # of people and second is they are not wheelchair accessible (thats why we needed the bigger room cause we would be able to have the ch and reception... (the woman we delt with actually recommend that we have a few of the guys carry my mil up the stairs to get to the ch if we booked with them!!! FH almost blew a gasket and got turned off!!!) so I guess it does depend on who you deal with, other than that I hear that the food is fantastic and the place is gorg!!

Re: Westbury Manor?
Felicia charged us sales tax on the gratuity portion. Isnt it illegal?

sales tax usually does get charged after gratuity...thats the price that I got with all the places I called about..not just WM...its not illegal...just when it comes to weddings they throw you through the ringer!
if the tax is applied to the total $12,000 it is wrong (and illegal) because the two amnts are listed as separate charge and therefore, tax cannot be computed on $12,000
tax is charged on $10,000 portion only. total payment to caterer should be $12,862.50 any amnt over that is mostly likely to be considered tips to them.
also, i'm not sure if it's allowed for sales tax to be applied on the chapel fee. i doubt it.
according to these publications, they have no basis to collect taxes on the chapel fee.

Re: Westbury Manor?
I went to Westbury Manor and fell in love with it. The BM I dealt with was very nice and helpful. We haven't officially booked it yet, but she was more than willing to answer any questions and make changes if we asked. Hoping to book it this weekend as soon as I confirm with the Church.
The only problem I'm running into now is that my FMIL says that Westbury Manor is a second rate place. She will not come back to look at Westbury Manor and told my FH that she would go to the reception under protest.

Re: Westbury Manor?
Monster in law!!
it's YOU and YOUR hubby's wedding, not hers!!
What nerve!! I think you should have your FH talk with her and ask why is she so against it.??
And that she should support you two and what makes you both happy!

2nd rate why? everyone i tell that im getting married at wm says...WHOA thats such a great place!

actually this isn't totally correct. cause you have to realize its all about WORDING. just about every single RH charges tax on the 'gratuity' -- and its NOT illegal. (this issue has come up 23409832490 times on this site thru the years)
the reason? they do not refer to it as a 'gratuity' -- all RHs refer to it as a 'Service Charge' --thus allowing them to collect tax on it. so when figuring your price per person--make sure you realize it WILL be taxed
