Westbury Manor?

Original post by pinkgirl

Can anyone tell me truthfully if Westbury Manor is good? I'd like to know about the food, service, everything. Obviously people that got married there loved it so I am trying to get unbiased opinions

Monster in law!!

it's YOU and YOUR hubby's wedding, not hers!!

What nerve!! I think you should have your FH talk with her and ask why is she so against it.??

And that she should support you two and what makes you both happy!

My mother said it's our wedding and go with what we want. I agree with her.

I asked FH to ask her and she won't give a reason as to why she is against it.

for example:

catering (food, drinks, etc.): $10,000
gratuity (20%): $2,000
tax (8.625%): $862.50

if the tax is applied to the total $12,000 it is wrong (and illegal) because the two amnts are listed as separate charge and therefore, tax cannot be computed on $12,000

tax is charged on $10,000 portion only.
total payment to caterer should be $12,862.50
any amnt over that is mostly likely to be considered tips to them.

also, i'm not sure if it's allowed for sales tax to be applied on the chapel fee. i doubt it.

according to these publications, they have no basis to collect taxes on the chapel fee.

sales tax usually does get charged after gratuity...thats the price that I got with all the places I called about..not just WM...its not illegal...just when it comes to weddings they throw you through the ringer!

actually this isn't totally correct. cause you have to realize its all about WORDING. just about every single RH charges tax on the 'gratuity' -- and its NOT illegal. (this issue has come up 23409832490 times on this site thru the years)

the reason? they do not refer to it as a 'gratuity' -- all RHs refer to it as a 'Service Charge' --thus allowing them to collect tax on it. so when figuring your price per person--make sure you realize it WILL be taxed

I agree with you about the wording - - gratuity no tax; service charge tax. BUT I disagree that ALL RH do service charges. Our wedding at Larkfield Manor had gratuity on the bill and no tax was charged on that. so not all RH do it. but yes watch the wording.
