Westbury Manor...

Westbury Manor...

I sent this letter to the Manor today. Figured I would post here for feedback. I absolutely don't want any just sad and bothered....

I haven't heard back from the Manor yet.

In October of 2009, we booked Westbury Manor as our wedding venue. At that time we were provided a $100 gift card to your restaurant in lieu of a formal tasting. We were never advised that any special conditions applied to this card.

My fiancé and I decided that we would use the gift card on Valentine’s Day. My fiancé made a reservation with Antonio. While making the reservation my fiancé inquired about any applicable special menu, etc. We are aware that the restaurant is not typically open on Sundays and therefore made sure to inquire about the specifics. We were assured that all was normal except menu pricing would be à la carte.

Upon receiving our bill ($87.99) we decided we would pay with the gift card but tip in cash. We placed the gift card in with the bill and returned it to another server. A few moments later Antonio arrived at our table to advise us that they could not accept the gift card. He inquired about how we came upon to have the gift card (if it was “complimentary” from them or from another party, etc).

He then told us that if they accepted all “complimentary” gifts on holidays there would be no seating for “paying customers”. I asked him how I could possibly have known about this; while on the menu it clearly states “no coupons,” I do not interpret that to mean gift cards. He offered absolutely no explanation, however, repeatedly thanked me for understanding. My fiancé and I embarrassed at this table-side spectacle and resented being made to feel as if we were trying to get over on the Manor.

The circumstances behind the purchase or acquisition of the gift card should not make a difference. We did not want to cause a scene so we paid the bill on another card and left upset.

To say that I was not satisfied or impressed by the treatment we received would be an understatement. In future, I believe it would be prudent to state somewhere prominent that gift cards are not accepted on holidays.

I hope the Manor takes steps to restore our confidence.

written very well! That is just nuts that they wouldnt allow you to use this GC! I always wanted to try the resturant but now im seconding guessing that! I hope they do something for you and throw something in on your wedding to make up for their lack of communicating!

Some RH's are closed on Mondays, so hopefully you'll hear back from them this afternoon.

I'm so sorry...hopefully something can be worked out.

That is so ridiculous. You are going to be spending tens of thousands of dollars there for your wedding, I am sure that they can spare a $90 dinner. Especially if you were going to tip in cash.

I am so sorry that this happened to you, I would be really turned off!

That's terrible! Even if it was their policy not to accept GCs on holidays it should have been printed right next to the 'no coupons' rule. I'm so sorry that happened - and agree with PP to speak with your BM and make sure this is rectified. That's completely unacceptable.

ugh! That is ridiculous. As another bride responded, $100 seems like a very petty amount to argue about when you had BOOKED their venue for thousands and thousands.

They should be kissing your damn feet to be getting your busniess in this competitive market!

I hope damn well they immediately apoligize

I am sorry - that is ridiculous and just bad business. FH and I went to our complimentary tasting at our RH with both sets of our parents. Had we paid for that dinner, and cocktails, it would have been easily a $500 dinner.

FH and I have gone back on several occasions for dinner, just the two of us, and they have always sent over free drinks, or free dessert, because they recognize us or our names.

I thought this kind of service appropriate and customary - and you should demand it from your RH! As the other girls said, you are spending $$$ there and you deserve it. GL!

I agree completely to call your BM. You booked your wedding there for heaven's sake. You're going to be spending a ton of money at their establishment and they can't accept the $100 gift card on Valentines Day? Give me a break. I'd be hopping mad!

I'm so sorry that this happened to you! I would send this letter to them via mail and e-mail it to your banquet manager so there is a record of it. Then I would call you banquet manager to discuss a further remedy for this. That is absolutely ridiculous and IMO, poor business practice, especially once the waiter found out you got it b/c you're getting married there.

I'm totally with you! They should have it somewhere on the gift certificate that it is invalid on holidays. I am so sorry that happened to you!

Don't they?

Even if they do thats terrible you had to go through that. They should have just honored it if you say you were not aware of the no holiday thing. I was also there for dinner on Vday and i saw the no coupons but I too would not have thought that applied to gift certificates

Re: Westbury Manor...

Nope, it doesnt say it anywhere. Not on the gift card itself, not on the packaging, not on the menu, or the website or anywhere. I even asked! Once Antonio said that it was unacceptable I asked where that was disclosed! He had no answers. =/

I too am a WM bride. I don't believe the coupon says no holidays, but from what I can remember being that I used my card already it says no weekends. I'm so sorry you had to go through this.
