Westbury Manor - Cake (Erga Bakery) UPDATE

Westbury Manor - Cake (Erga Bakery) UPDATE

So they had a cake tasting last night at the showcase and I have to admit I am soooooo disappointed. The cake wasn't good, it was dry and tasted stale. Even FH didn't like it and he likes everything LOL. I feel with all the money we are spending at WM we should get a delicious cake and not just settle because it is the cake that is included. There's got to be something we can do.

I wasn't going to say anything because I thought I was the only one but after reading lots of other brides post on the WM thread I realize there are a lot of us who felt the same way about the cake.

Maybe we should all email our BM's and tell them that we were at the showcase last night and how unhappy we were with the cake. If enough of us complain they have to realize there is a problem and maybe they can come up with an alternative or give us a credit so we can go somewhere else to get a cake that we actually like. What do you ladies think?

UPDATE:

My BM just emailed me back and apologized. She said that I can speak with Kelly when I finalize our menu. That options they usually offer are fruit and pastry on the cordial bar, ice sculpture, discount on choc fountain. I don't want those, I want a cake!! A cake that tastes like it is from a bakery and not day old supermarket cake. I'm so mad.

tyr it and see what your BM says. I want to try the cake too but my wedding is too far away. I can't even get someone at egra bakery to speak to me. completly avoiding me everytime i email or call. i hear mixed reviews about the bakery.

Just FYI - Alot of the WM brides wanted to upgrade to red velvet cake. HOWEVER, I spoke to one of the WM's reps and asked her. She said that Egra does NOT do real red velvet cake. They use vanilla sponge cake and dye it red. That is why the upgrade to 'red velvet' is free.

One of the girls suggested just getting red velvet sheet cake and having that served to the guests. It is not a bad idea.

The WM rep said that if you go with an outside cake they will give you a credit for pastries or an ice sculpture or something like that.

That was me that suggested the sheet cake. Once your wedding cake is taken in the kitchen they guests have no idea what happens in there. I am going to a bakery in West Hempstead that my mother in law uses and order a red velvet sheet cake. I am going to talk to Felicia about the credit. I could defiantly use that towards something else. I am going to make it very plain to her that the cake was horrible

Please let me know if you can get credit for the cake. If we use our own bakery, my fiance would love to add the chocolate fountain in its place. Thanks

They said if you go to an outside bakery they will compensate you - so you can definately see what they will do

What if you order your own smaller version of the wedding cake (or use fake layers as I have seen people do) and have the sheet cake cut up in the back? Will they still charge you?

I think even if you get the cake from Erga through WM and don't even plan to use it they still have to pay erga so i don't think they will give you anything

I think they will only give you something if you go completely on the outside for a wedding cake

Chateau Briand uses them too. When I went for a tasting at the bakery they were rude and forgot to give us forks and when I first asked they didn't bring then and then after they brought them. We were so disappointed. At the wedding the cake was ok. We got the chocolate moose and raspberry filling. It was different then when we went for the tasting but it was still good.

If you are looking for another bakery try the rolling pin. East wind uses them and my sister got a tasting and it was absolutely yummy!

I have been so angry about this all day. My sister gifted me an upgraded cake and now I don't even want to waste the money upgrading. I am going for my cake tasting on August 2nd so we will see.

I was at the showcase and thought the cake was fine. But if you didn't like it, I know they give a credit.

I know the watermill also uses this bakery since they are all scotto brother owned catering halls. I have to say when i tasted it at the watermill showcase i was far from impressed it was not good at all, we really cant afford to waste a lot of money on a cake but i was very disappointed. I asked our BM if went with another bakery what are credit would be and he wasnt much help he said an ice sculpture, which i said is nothing special since we already have that in our contract his comment was we could have two, whooo(wow that was no favor). I said to FH that costco and bj cakes taste much better. Let me know girls what you get instead.

I emailed my BM too (I think she is off today though, because I haven't heard from her and I always here right back) so I'll let you know what, if anything, happens. Hopefully enough of us complained that they realize there is a problem.
