When we got fred we were told to mix a tablepsoon of wet food with his dry food. The thing is it totally grosses me out and I have never given any dog I have had as a kid wet food. The vet said he didnt care what kind of combination we gave him as long as it was puppy food
He ran out of the case of wet food we bought the other day and have just been giving him the dry food, but is there a reason for the wet food???

Re: wet food?
Wet food is an enticer to eat. I think the pros for it are: -dogs like it -makes bland dry food more apealing
The cons are: -can promote tooth decay in large quantities -kinda expensive -mostly water
So while it isn't necessary, if you get a quality brand it isn't bad for your dog. If he eats his dry food alone, you can also try using two different brands so he doesn't get bored. We give our dog wet food as a treat in a seperate bowl.

Re: wet food?
I know what you mean about being grossed out. I was thinking of keeping a separate Tupperware for my dog's wet food (after I open the can, I assume I will need to keep it in something and refrigerate it). I just use the same one all the time and hand wash it. Then, when I go to give him the spoonful each day, I will scoop it with a disposable spoon. My vet told me he should have some wet food on top of the dry!!
I personally only give wet food once or twice a month as a treat. I think the dry food is so much better for their teeth and all the nutrition is in premium kibble.
