Not because we cant afford it and not because we cant do it...just because, I feel like I was getting too into the wedding extras, and forgetting about the BIG picture...fh and I married...
I felt like it went from being a 18 person Disney wedding where we were going to do brunch and mickey waffels, and got blown up into exactly what I didn't want...
Anyone else feel like theyre becoming way too involved in the one day?
I have some things that I may want to get rid of now, If I get time to post them on here and you're interested let me know....

I know exactly what you mean. Every now and then I beg FH to just run away to an island and tie the knot on the beach... Just would seem so much easier!
I try not to sweat the details. One of my married BFF's said that it allllll comes together in the end and no one really remembers the little itty bitty stuff that we drive ourselves crazy about.

Re: Weve decided to cut out all the extras...
I totally hear what you're saying. I've been working on a ton of little things lately, but I'm not letting it kill my time.... I do a little bit here and there...but I'm mainly doing it just to save money. FH always reminds me what this whole process is really about. He tries to help me out when I look stressed b/c he doesn't want me to lose site of it all...the main reason for all of this. And, I know once it's all said and done I will wonder...was all this worth it..??

Exactly An old friend of mine just got married last week and sent me the pictures, and said 'We didn't want flowers, so our photog is photoshopping them in for us'

i 100% agree with you! i was just having this conversation with my mother the other day and i decided that i really didn't want to add a bunch of the extras that we were adding. i didn't want our wedding to turn into a circus and i wanted it to center on the most important part of the day - me marring FH!

I feel the same way some times, but some times I don't.
Yeah, it's just one day...but for me personally, I've never had just one day where it was all about me (and FH). I work so hard, and I just feel like I'm always passed over, never paid attention to, and its never good enough. So I just want one day where I can loose myself in something like this, because I know I'll never have it again.

Re: Weve decided to cut out all the extras...
I'm so torn...at first FH was the one who wanted the big wedding and I was all about a destination wedding. Then we decided, we'll have the wedding. Sometimes I feel like I definitely focus too much on the wedding and not enough on the marriage.
However, we are trying to keep things as simple as possible. While we want our guests to have fun and enjoy themselves, we don't need a lot of the stuff that the wedding industry ***** you into.
Luckily, I am 'bad Bride' and haven't gone overboard with the little things at all.

We decided to put the extra money into spoiling our guests who are invited...and are getting our favorite wine shipped in specially for our tables. I think thats way worth more than a million coasters with our names on it

Re: Weve decided to cut out all the extras...
yea you have to remember what the whole day is about. More than anything else I was excited about marrying my best friend. Even with all the extras my favorite memory is seeing dh when i first walked down the aisle and exchanging our vows. Two weeks before the wedding i didnt think or care about anything else, and i wasnt doing things i should've done bc i just said who cares.
Some do all the extras and lose sight of it all but others can do extras but still remember what the day is all about. DH and i went through alot of hard times before the wedding, we had alot of bad luck. My dad having a heart attack and being hospitalized for a month and having a double bypass just 3 months before my wedding, and that is just 1 of the many things we had bad luck with. Of course with moments like that you realize you would give up everything to have just those you love there and what its all truly about. I did a bunch of extras but nothing where i became obsessed with the extras and focused all my energy into that. I also was very care free at the same time, i didnt tell anybody what to do, i let my bm's wear any color or type of shoes they wanted, i told them they can do hair and MU themselves or get it done wherever they want. I didnt let people stress me out to the point where i went crazy. Didnt drive myself crazy that if i didnt have something my whole wedding was ruined. Most of the things you obsess about anyways the funny thing is you wont notice more than half those things on your wedding day. I didnt think that if one thing went wrong it was the end of the world, you just deal with it and move on.
also like a previous poster said, i never had anything for myself lol. I didnt want a sweet 16, my mom tried to convince me but i said no. I never made a fuss about my birthday, for me it was always like ok i will keep it simple and go out to this bar/club and who wants to come just meet me there, i never wanted any parties for myself or anyone to make a big fuss over me. So for wedding i said its the one time i will do it. I dont like all the attention on me and wedding was easy for me bc i felt like i wasnt the center of attention, although ppl say its all about the bride, i never felt that way. I felt like DH and I shared the spotlight and i was glad bc i felt the attention can go to him when i wanted to and this way i felt comfortable. Now that i got my wedding out of the way, i also say I never want like a big bday party thrown for me or anything where its all about me. My 30th is gonna be in february of 2010 and i dont want any fuss to be made about it.
Just focus on the day and dont worry about what youre doing or not doing. As long as you know what the day truly means to you. Once the day comes around you will see what its truly about. I didnt even see my placecard table, or even see my menu's at the RH the day of and most details lol.
