ok so i havent posted much about this, because honestly im starting to feel like a bit of a failure, but i have been looking for a job for 7 months now in education, and its getting realllllyy late with school starting soon
i went on an interview today for something that was supposed to be a shoo-in, and my boss proceeded to tell me that, 'im not sure if this is the right career move for your long term goals, and im just trying to help you out..btw have you ever tried modeling? i have a number if you want it..'
i walked out of there (after an hour of listening to her go on like this) in tears
it was just a bad day

Re: what a horrible day
done feel so bad, i've been lookin since i graduated in May 2008...... the edu field is so hard to get into right now. my sister is a principal and not even she can help me out b/c of all the cuts the districts have made.....its bad....
From what I hear from friends its very hard in the education field right now. My friend and co worker was a teacher in a Catholic school and she actually got a job as a manager in the store we work in cause it payed much more salary - shes been looking for job in public schools even something like a permament sub position but theres not much out there - she says you pretty much have to know someone these days- don't get down on yourself b/c it has nothing to do with you or your work

Sorry to crash, but that's really despicable of your boss to say to you. I'm so sorry that happened to you. I'm sure you are more than qualified for whatever you were interviewing for, and I'm sorry that this woman got caught up in your looks and couldn't get beyond them. That's so disgusting IMO.
Anyway,

I know it's hard to find a job in education right now. Have you tried contacting districts to be a permanent sub in a building? I remember a couple of years ago this was the time when I got a lot of phone calls. If you're a permanent sub you are more likely to get leave replacements that pop up during the year.
Good luck!!!

I am sorry people are dumb! Your boss should not have said that. I don't know if you are only interested in finding a job on LI but I got my job in Queens by faxing my resume around to different schools FM for more info and for numbers!!
It will work out!! jobs in Education take some time to get

OMG do NOT give up. FH interviewed beginning early last March when he heard his school was closing & he might be excessed and we had all but given up and a week and a half ago all of a sudden he had 2 offers! We've been beside ourselves for months and we thought all teaching jobs would be full but sometimes these August board meetings change the structure of who they are hiring and such.
Have you applied for any leave replacements? Many times there are full year leave replacements.
