What a truly F'ed up Day (sort of long)

What a truly F'ed up Day (sort of long)

I had yesterday off because I had to see a doctor about my knee.

Today I come in and find 200 unread emails. 15 voicemails (because apparently my light didnt turn on, so I hadn't realized i HAD voicemails) and a ton of work to catch up on.

I got stuff done and started to JUST put myself back together again, when people start calling angry about me not returning calls I never realized I HAD!

Get through that and the few unpleasant meetings I was asked to do today (Cause no one else wanted to).

Just then the A-hole of my office comes to bothering me stupidly over something so small and already handled that I could scream. He's such a d!ck about it too! grr.

Ok Lunch FINALLY after several long and intense conference calls (god.. it's only one and im DYING!) Took lunch with my cubby mate (sits on the other side of my cubby wall) and a couple of coworkers. Nice relaxing unthoughtful (which is a good thing) lunch.

Get back to our floor and they head for coffee I go to the restroom and fax machine to catch up stuff. Get back to my desk and check my voicemail.

As Im writing out my voicemail (it's long and important) I hear my cubbymate crying hysterically. I see people rushing over to her cubby. What the hell? NO ONE can understand her she's on the phone and speaking Norigian (sp).

I grab some tissues and come over. Something's wrong but I don't know what. I go back to try to pull my voicemail off my inbox so I have it. Then she gets off the phone.

Her father's dead. Died while we were laughing during lunch. Sudden heart attack no warning no history of health problems. Only 57.

All hell breaks loose. I immediatly get her started on giving us her open items list then call my boss at home to tell her we have a problem. Boss authorizes me to do what I need to do. Get my cubby mate wrapped up and pass off the work (guess who-ME). Get her assignments, her address and phone number in Norway and here in NYC. Walk her through getting her voicemail/email set as out and get her a car service home. We get her boyfriend on the phone who offers to pay for the flight to Norway and go with her (he's in california). Big Bosses find out and walk over to give their condolences. Folks who heard her crying come by for hugs and such. I get her wrapped up and down stairs to a waiting car service. Hand out assignments and work of hers. She calls back with her flight schedules (she's leaving tonight). Get her a car service from her apt in NYC to the airport and give her the confirmation numbers.

Boss calls, give her the update and confirm the voicemail I received (before all hit the fan) and work to clean that issue up. Start faxing out info on the open items my cubbymate left behind.

Ok. It's 5:30.
What the HELL happened to my day. I feel like I've been run over!!! My eyes hurt!

ETA:
i guess I just had to vent. I immediately thought of my own dad and god.. I don't know what I'd do. I feel so bad for her. She kept going on about how they were burying him this coming Thursday and she thinks that's too soon. Like it's not real until he's buried and she just doesnt want that to happen. I felt SO bad for her.. It's heart wrenching!

Wow that is a bad day! I'm sorry about your friend's dad.
That was so nice that her BF is paying for her trip and going with her.

I hope that things get better for you tomorrow.

oh Veronica, my heart is just breaking reading about your day ... I don't know how you held it together, but your co-worker is lucky to have you (and the rest of your office sounds great also..)

My Dad and I are SUPER close also so this just killed me reading it .

Have a good night and a better day tomorrow!
