What an dissappointment

What an dissappointment

Hello to all my future brides to be!

Before I get into the foolishness, let me say I absolutely LOVE these forums. I have been lurking around since I got engaged and it is a joy to read everyone helping each other. It really gave me hope...

Until I was actually going through planning my own wedding

The love of life and I moved to VA. We finally decided to get married. I wanted a destination wedding and just inviting the ones we hold very near to our hearts. He wanted a wedding in our hometown (NYC of course) so more ppl would be able to come.

Let me say, this has the biggest nightmare of all times!

Our first date was NYE. My family had a problem with it saying no one would come. Ok. So I changed the date to March 27 (that is my school's spring break and a good time for me to take off from work). I tried on a dress I absolutely loved and that wasn't good enough. After being frustrated, I got a dress everyone else loved. 3 days later, my mom and sis decided the date wasn't good enough because the weather will be to unpredictable. So May 29 it was.

The reception hall I was eyeing wasn't wheel chair accessible so I had to keep looking. Being the cheapskate I am, I settled on Riccardo's. I sent my mom to give them the deposit. Now she has an issue with the Rh because it doesn't have a separate cocktail room or a chapel (the ceremony was going to be held at either Queens Botanical Gardens or my home church which is 20 minutes from the RH). She decided she liked Astoria World Manor better (I've been there on a Saturday night it is NOT a place for a wedding, especially when they need some SERIOUS repairs and was too over crowded).

So after weeks of arguing the wedding has been called off. I've lost money on the dress and the RH if they do not book that date. Hurt is an understatement. I would love to still get married but it will only happen if we elope.

To all brides to be that's going through the same situation, make sure it is what you want. It's mostly your day. You're going to be stressed out anyway. Mind as well have it to your preference. If you can, do most of the running around with either a neutral party or alone.

I'm sorry you are going through this stress. I hear ya though.

people just need to learn how to SHUT IT when it comes to your day.

I hope it all works out.

Sorry about your situation.... I say elope! If you want to get married, get married. And if you have your dress wear it wherever you go to elope. I hope everything works itself out for you.

Unfortunately it sounds like you should've told your mom where to stick her opinions and then done what you liked. You still can have the wedding you want! There's still time.

Are you kidding me??? This is your wedding not theirs! Why are they telling you what dates are good or bad! I would have a destination wedding like you wanted to begin with. If they come they come.

BTW- i had my wedding at Riccardos and everything was wonderful. The food was amazing and the prices were unbeatable. IMO I have been to Astoria Manor and the food is not as good.

Oh no I am so sorry to hear that in the beginning you should have kept the date that you wanted in the first place u r the bride and it is what u want not everyone else. Maybe u guys can try again and tell the RH that you need time because losing out on that money is not cool. A similar situation happened to me and I lost out on so much money the wedding was suppose to be 8/1/08 at woodbury country club. But we are getting married next year at the venetian.

It will work itself out as long as you and your FH love each other it will work. Sometimes they say things happen for a reason

That is horrible! I'm sorry that happened. Honestly.. before cancelling everything that you have in place... just sit back.. maybe have a nice dinner with the FH and put all your cards on the table. What do YOU want. What does HE want. Where can you compromise? Don't just elope because it's frustrating. Vent a little, then decide what you both want and forget about everyone else.. including your mother. It's your day. Not hers. IMO... moms sometimes forget that and you need to let them know (as kindly as possible) where you stand.

Don't just elope unless you really want to. If you do.. maybe a nice tropical island would be a good place to do that?

Ok I am going to tell you it like it is...you want to marry the one man you are going to be with for the rest of your life, so at the end of the day its only YOU and HIM that matter. So if you want to elope and that is how you want to celebrate, so be it. People are lucky that they even get their opinion in the mix here and there.. Do what you and FH want to do and everyone else comes second...Because if that is how you start your wedding planning, that is how your marriage will be, with everyone always butting in

this is horrible. you shld do what YOU want to do and NOT cater to everyone else's needs. if you and ur bf still want to get married in a traditional setting then i say forget everyone else!!!! book where you want when you want and believe me ppl will come! dont let other ppl think that their input somehow trumps your own!!!!! sorry to hear of your situation!!!

When you start planning again.. just remember this is YOURS and FHs wedding DONT let anyone else tell you what they want.. its NOT their wedding! Good Luck Love!

I am so sorry you're going through this. Just make sure its what you both want and that it's both of you 'handling' the nay-sayers. It can be hard for just one person to handle.
