What an dissappointment

Original post by MrsRobinson2u

Hello to all my future brides to be!

Before I get into the foolishness, let me say I absolutely LOVE these forums. I have been lurking around since I got engaged and it is a joy to read everyone helping each other. It really gave me hope...

Until I was actually going through planning my own wedding

The love of life and I moved to VA. We finally decided to get married. I wanted a destination wedding and just inviting the ones we hold very near to our hearts. He wanted a wedding in our hometown (NYC of course) so more ppl would be able to come.

Let me say, this has the biggest nightmare of all times!

Our first date was NYE. My family had a problem with it saying no one would come. Ok. So I changed the date to March 27 (that is my school's spring break and a good time for me to take off from work). I tried on a dress I absolutely loved and that wasn't good enough. After being frustrated, I got a dress everyone else loved. 3 days later, my mom and sis decided the date wasn't good enough because the weather will be to unpredictable. So May 29 it was.

The reception hall I was eyeing wasn't wheel chair accessible so I had to keep looking. Being the cheapskate I am, I settled on Riccardo's. I sent my mom to give them the deposit. Now she has an issue with the Rh because it doesn't have a separate cocktail room or a chapel (the ceremony was going to be held at either Queens Botanical Gardens or my home church which is 20 minutes from the RH). She decided she liked Astoria World Manor better (I've been there on a Saturday night it is NOT a place for a wedding, especially when they need some SERIOUS repairs and was too over crowded).

So after weeks of arguing the wedding has been called off. I've lost money on the dress and the RH if they do not book that date. Hurt is an understatement. I would love to still get married but it will only happen if we elope.

To all brides to be that's going through the same situation, make sure it is what you want. It's mostly your day. You're going to be stressed out anyway. Mind as well have it to your preference. If you can, do most of the running around with either a neutral party or alone.

Re: What an dissappointment

I am SO sorry you had to go through all that. Sounds like your mom is MOMZILLA! My mom was bad too but eventually I had to tell her where to go. Remember it's your day and you should have fun that day and love everything you do and have! Your mom had her wedding already.

No matter what date you pick, it could be cold or rainy. Remember 2009? The entire summer it rained except for the month of August and then was cold by September but 2010 was SO HOT! You never know! 2010, it was starting to warm up mid March.

I did a lot of things I wish I didn't because I was trying not be a Bridezilla. I spent the day of my wedding miserable with a lot of things because I didn't speak up during the planning. I wish I had so I could have enjoyed the day more.

I hope it all works out for you and we are all here to help!

Re: What an dissappointment

at this point it sounds like its more about the party then the wedding. you dont need the stress

tell your mom to plan for AND PAY FOR whatever she wants. go get yourselves hitched and let her throw the party

just a crazy idea, i know. but putting it out there

really sorry u dealing w the stress...how is your FH holdin up?

So sorry!

It is your wedding (and it sounds like it is your money)- you only have to make you and FH happy, NOT everyone else.

If they are that angry, they won't attend.

Re: What an dissappointment

Thank you ladies for all the kind words. This is truly a nightmare. I just wanted to put my story out there hoping it would help someone else. The point of the story is whatever you want that 's what you get. Once you start letting other opinions in, that's when the chaos and drama sets in. It's not worth it. If someone decides they're not going to show because of the choices you made for your day then maybe that person should not had been on your guest list from the beginning.

New year means new beginnings and I can't wait!

Unfortunately it sounds like you should've told your mom where to stick her opinions and then done what you liked. You still can have the wedding you want! There's still time.

i couldnt agree any more!
u can still get married and have the wedding YOU want. hope iti works out
