Of finding a nice house on the Island (not too far out) up to 400K? We are currently in Queens, and not to familiar with neighborhoods, schools, etc...seems impossible but my hopes are up:) Help! Thanks!!!

I think you could definitely find something! Most that we saw under 400,000 needed some work, but were livable...Needed updating, maybe 2 bedrooms, not 3, maybe 1 bath instead of 2 or 3....Here's a bunch in Massapequa under 400,000 . If the search doesn't work, check out www.mlsli.com. You can do a price search, and restrict the town or school district. I am sure you'll find something! Good luck!

I don't actually live in Nassau, so I know more about Suffolk but Suffolk is more of a commute if you work in the city. Massapequa isn't bad (I don't think), schools are pretty good I think...Some of the really good school districts wouldn't have houses under 400,000, but there are definitely areas that aren't bad! Other Nassau people could give you areas to avoid, but I have heard avoid Hempstead and Amityville...No offense to anyone living there, of course....Babylon also is a relatively good area, and is a main LIRR branch if you work in the city. Some houses in Massapequa are in the Amityville SD, so look at that as well

we are currently looking in the same price range.... it really depends what you 'need' in a house, our need includes a basement AND second floor AND two bathrooms, good schools, good backyard, not woodsy.... so its been a little difficult for us.....so we started looking into western suffolk(since you can get more house for the price).. and they have some nice houses there
if you dont need a basement or second level then you should be fine in finding a home.... there is a nice one in east meadow actually(no basement though so fh declined)..

we have found a lot of housed under 400 but they move really fast and there are a lot of people bidding on them. i also found that a lot of them needed to be updated although you could move in they had really old kitchens and baths.
