What are the current broker commissions?

We are looking to sell both of our homes and buy a new one (or at least sell mine and live in his for now as mine should be easier to sell).
I met with a broker this past week and they told me they were asking for 6% commission but would do it for 5% (2% to be paid to outside brokers if they bring the deal).
I was expecting 4% on the high side. Does anyone have any current experience they'd like to share?
